Chapter 12
Chapter 12
The young woman turned around, her face a mask of confusion.
“Excuse me, do I know you?”
Seeing the unfamiliar face, Ryan’s heart plummeted into his stomach.
He let go of her arm and forced a stiff, unnatural smile. “I’m so sorry, I mistook you for someone else.”
Perhaps because he looked so utterly distraught, the girl asked cautiously.
“Sir, are you in some kind of trouble?”
Before Ryan could answer, Jessica suddenly appeared from behind him and slapped the girl hard across the face.
“You slut! Have you no shame, hitting on someone else’s boyfriend in the middle of the street? Didn’t your mother teach you any damn decency?”
Her voice was shrill and piercing, causing the passersby to turn and stare.
Some people started pointing and whispering at the girl who had been hit.
“Wow, this is intense. Bet that’s the wife catching the mistress.”
“Tsk, can’t these young girls find anything better to do? Are they that desperate for a man that they have to become homewreckers?”
“She deserves to get slapped for trying to break up a happy home!”
The girl stood there, holding her stinging cheek, completely at a loss, her eyes red with a mixture of anger and humiliation.
But Jessica wasn’t nearly done with her.
“I’m warning you, stay the hell away from my boyfriend, or I’ll make you regret it!”
With that, she raised her hand to slap the girl again.
The next moment, her wrist was seized in a tight grip, and a furious roar erupted next to her ear.
“Jessica, have you made enough of a scene!”
Ryan’s face was ashen, a vein throbbing violently in his temple.
Jessica’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“You think I’m making a scene? Ryan, have you forgotten? I’m your girlfriend! After everything I’ve done for you, you’re defending this little tramp? How could you do this to me?”
Ryan struggled to control the inferno of rage building inside him.
“I don’t know her from Adam, I just mistook her for someone else! You came up and started hitting her without knowing a single thing about what was going on. You are the one in the wrong here!”
Jessica wasn’t listening. Ryan’s blatant neglect over the past few days had pushed her to the absolute brink of a breakdown.

Chapter 12
She shrieked hysterically, “Ryan, don’t think for a second that I don’t know what’s going on! Mistook her for someone else? Is it because she looks like Chloe? I’m so good to you! Why can’t you just forget about her?”
The crowd of onlookers, hearing this, also started to turn on Ryan.
“This guy’s no good either, helping the mistress bully his own girlfriend!”
“Yeah, he looks decent enough on the outside, but to do something so disgusting, he’s asking for had karma!”
“This poor girl must have been through a lot of crap to be pushed to this state.”
Every harsh, judgmental word stabbed at Ryan’s ears.
His face flushed a deep red. Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore and roared, “Enough! She is not my girlfriend!”
It was as if a floodgate had burst open deep in his heart.
He continued recklessly, the words tumbling out, “I have a wife! It’s because of her constant, insane pestering that my wife divorced me!”
At his words, the way everyone in the crowd looked at Jessica instantly changed.
Jessica looked as if she had been struck by lightning, every last drop of color draining from her face.
“No, that’s not true. You promised last night that you’d be with me.” She reached for Ryan with a trembling hand. “I’ll stop. Let’s just go home, okay? I’ll never do this again, I swear.”
Ryan took a sharp step back, avoiding her touch as if she were
“Jessica, you forced me to agree by threatening to kill yourself.”
“From the very beginning, Chloe has been the only one I’ve ever truly loved.”
“I was originally going to wait until your condition improved to explain all of this to you, but I realize now that I just can’t take it anymore. I’m going to find Chloe. Don’t come looking for me again. From this point on, whether you live or die has absolutely nothing to do with me.”
With that, Ryan turned and got into a car parked by the curb.
Behind him, he could hear Jessica’s heart–wrenching sobs and screams.
“Ryan, come back! I know I was wrong! Please, don’t leave me!”
But Ryan never once looked back.
