Corinne had just briefly fainted in Yardley's hospital room and was still feeling a bit dizzy. Now, pinned to the ground by Jacqueline, the color drained entirely from her face.
Terrified out of her wits, she begged desperately, "I was wrong, Jacqueline! Let me go... I... I'll delete them as soon as I get back, I promise!"
Jacqueline's eyes narrowed into slits.
"Your word is worth absolutely nothing to me anymore."
"It's been years. It's time to settle the score with you people once and for all."
"Get up. You're coming with me."
Still clutching a fistful of Corinne's hair, Jacqueline dragged her toward the exit, her gaze cold and deadly.
Trembling all over, Corinne tried to break free, but the blinding pain in her scalp forced her to submit.
"Jacqueline... where... where are you taking me?"
Jacqueline's voice was laced with icy resolve.
"The police station."
Corinne went ghastly pale. "You..."
"You just admitted, out loud, that you still have those photos and videos... I've been agonizing over the lack of evidence to make you pay for what you did."
Corinne's eyes bulged in absolute terror.
"You... you're taking me to the police? Aren't you afraid your past will be exposed?"
Jacqueline let out a chilling laugh.
"What I'm afraid of is those events *not* coming to light. I'm afraid I won't be able to punish you disgusting, hypocritical high-society gossips who kicked me when I was down!"
"Move, Corinne!"
Jacqueline's eyes shone with a ferocious, unforgiving light.
Dragging Corinne by the hair, she looked like a victorious general returning from battle with an enemy's severed head.
Scarlett had always assumed the blackmail material was a nightmare her mother never wanted to revisit.
She hadn't expected Jacqueline to be braver, fiercer, and more fearless than she was.
By the time Sylvia chased them outside, Scarlett's Maserati was already speeding away, kicking up a massive spray of dirty water from a puddle.
Sylvia tried to run after them but got drenched in mud.
Stomping her feet in sheer panic, she quickly dialed Yardley's number.
Yardley had just caught his breath and was about to close his eyes for a short nap when his phone rang.
The moment he answered, Sylvia's frantic voice screamed through the speaker:
"Yardley! This is bad! Aunt Corinne was just dragged into a car by Scarlett's mother!"
"I don't know where they're taking her! What do we do? Are they going to kill her?!"
Yardley nearly vaulted out of bed, his eyes wide with horror.
"What happened? Why would my mother-in-law grab my mom?"
Sylvia shrieked in disbelief:
"Yardley, how can you still call her your mother-in-law at a time like this?! She's a psychotic bitch, even worse than Scarlett!"
