"I know exactly what is happening inside the Flynn Group," Quentin sneered, rising from his chair. "Your top talent has jumped ship. Your board is fractured and staging a coup. Half of your major projects are dead in the water. You survived last year because AM Capital threw you a lifeline, but their terms were predatory. One misstep, and they will swallow your company whole."
Quentin walked around the table, his voice dripping with condescension. "But by marrying Veronica, you get the Thorne name backing you. That alone will pacify your shareholders. You'll get our capital injections. I have multiple massive projects lined up that I can feed to the Flynn Group. Yes, the contract is harsh. But if you walk away now, you lose everything. With us, your odds of survival actually exist."
Yardley froze in his tracks, his fists clenched so tightly his nails dug into his palms.
He knew this was a transaction. From day one, this marriage had nothing to do with love. But even knowing that, being explicitly priced, cornered, and blackmailed like this was a degrading, soul-crushing humiliation.
He used to be the golden boy of Country H's business elite. A visionary. An untouchable prodigy.
When did his life devolve into trading his dignity just to keep the lights on?
A suffocating wave of regret crashed over him. He had held all the winning cards, yet somehow, he had played himself into absolute ruin.
Seeing him hesitate, Quentin smirked. He raised his hands and clapped twice.
"Yardley! Oh, my son! I missed you so much!"
A painfully familiar voice echoed through the hall.
Yardley's blood turned to ice. He spun around in disbelief.
Standing right behind Quentin and his wife was Corinne Quinn.
For a second, Yardley thought he was hallucinating. His mother was supposed to be locked up in police custody. He had exhausted every favor, bribed every contact, and pulled every string he had, but no one could get her out.
And yet, here she was. Quentin had quietly bypassed everything and pulled her out without saying a word.
