Corinne realized she had let her anger get the best of her and let something slip. Her eyes darted around in a panic before she quickly changed her tune.
"Your mother was involved in a lot of scandals, so how would I know which one you're talking about? But surely you know how terrible her reputation was in Bay City."
Scarlett kept a tight grip on Corinne's collar, her eyes blazing with fury.
"You just said the word 'we' out loud. That means you were part of what happened back then."
"I don't know exactly what my mother went through all those years ago, but I will investigate everything! I won't let a single person who hurt her get away."
Corinne's unintentional slip of the tongue had torn open a deep, old wound in Scarlett's heart.
When it all happened, she was only five years old.
But she would always remember that day. A large group of people stormed into their home like robbers, snatching and grabbing, until they finally pushed her mother into the bedroom and slammed the door shut.
She didn't know what happened to her mother in that room.
She only remembered her mother walking out later with disheveled hair, vacant eyes, and tear-stained cheeks.
After that, their lives took a sharp nosedive. Her father and brother completely disappeared from their lives, and she and her mother were forced to move from their large house to a cramped, run-down neighborhood.
Later on, every time she came home from school, she would see bruises on her mother's face and body, and sometimes blood on the corner of her lips.
She was too young then, so many memories were blurry. By the time she was old enough to remember things clearly, her mother's image had become glamorous again.
But all these years, she knew deep down that something huge had happened that year, aside from her father taking her brother and leaving.
Corinne let out a cold scoff.
"Big words, Scarlett. If you're going to make threats, you should look in the mirror and remember your place."
"If Yardley hadn't married you and protected you these past few years, do you really think you and your mother would be living such comfortable lives right now?"
"Be smart. Get on your knees right now, apologize to Sylvia and me, and record a video to post online! Otherwise, I won't let you off easily this time!"
Scarlett let out a light laugh.
"Yeah. Won't a divorce make things easier for your little affair?" Scarlett replied. "Since you feel like this marriage was an act of charity on your part, that's fine. I'm giving him back to you. Let's see if you have the guts to take him."
Sylvia's face drained of color before flushing red.
"What nonsense are you spouting? Yardley and I are completely innocent. We..."
"You don't need to explain anything to me. You'd better figure out how to explain yourself to the Croft family."
Scarlett let out a cold sneer and pointed toward the door. "I'm giving you ten minutes. Oh, wait, eight minutes. Pack your bags immediately and get out of the home I share with Yardley."
Sylvia couldn't believe her ears.
"What did you just say? You want me to move out? What gives you the right? This house belongs to the Flynn family!"
"As long as I'm still Yardley's wife, this is my territory. If you don't move out, I'll call Julian right now and tell him to fly back to deal with his family issues."
"I'll ask him over the phone if the Croft family is so broke that they can't even afford to give you a place to stay. Do you really have to be so shameless as to occupy my marital home?"
