He Loves Me Right, Finally novel Chapter 145

Wynette looked at Alice and said, "Come over to my place for dinner tonight. My mom's cooking. We're celebrating you moving into a new home."

Since Alice was staying with Wynette for now and could not cook, Kaylee had arranged for the chef to come over every day.

The chef would arrive around dinnertime, cook the meal, then head back to the Jewell Residence.

Alice felt like she had been troubling Wynette enough lately.

Now that Wynette was throwing her a housewarming dinner, she felt even more embarrassed. "I should be the one treating you guys," Alice said softly.

The moment Wynette heard that, she knew Alice was about to start being polite again.

She smiled and replied, "Are you even treating me like a friend? Everything's already prepared. Besides, I'll still need your help with my fashion show later. So just give me a chance to do something for you, okay?"

Since Wynette had put it that way, Alice felt it would be awkward to refuse again.

In the end, she nodded.

Wynette helped Alice tidy up the house before leaving with Adriel.

On the way back, Adriel got a call from Blaze.

Betty had survived the emergency surgery.

But because of the severe injuries, she had been moved to the ICU. The chances of her waking up were almost zero.

The second Wynette heard that, she understood. Betty would most likely end up in a vegetative state.

Their key witness was gone just like that. The most important lead had been cut off.

Even though Wynette knew the Shepherds were behind everything, she had no way to prove it.

In a low voice, she asked, "Did they find the driver?"

Honestly, even if they did, it would not help much. At most, it could prove the driver intended to kill someone. It still would not prove Justin had ordered it.

And with Justin's personality, if he made a move this openly, it meant he had already cleaned everything up in advance. He would not leave evidence behind for Wynette to find.

The truth turned out exactly as Wynette expected.

The driver had been found, but there was no connection to Justin at all.

According to the police report, the driver had terminal cancer. He had been drunk and attacked people randomly out of hatred for the world.

As for running Betty over a second time, the driver claimed he was afraid she might survive and leave him stuck paying medical bills for the rest of his life. Since she had already been hit, he figured he might as well finish the job.

If she died, then it would be one life for one life. In his eyes, his life was worthless already.

Sadly, cases like this were becoming more common.

Some drivers really did go back and run over injured victims again, because they believed it was cheaper than paying lifelong compensation.

A chill ran down Wynette's spine. "The world really is full of all kinds of people," she muttered.

She disagreed with the driver's thinking, but she also struggled to argue with the cold reality behind it.

At the end of the day, humans and animals were different.

Adriel looked at her and said slowly, "Don't focus on the Shepherds for now. The priority is curing your dad."

Justin had probably realized Wynette knew something.

Afraid his actions against Ryker might be exposed, he was definitely trying to erase every trace connecting back to himself.

The methods he used were disgusting.

Wynette agreed with Adriel.

She also understood that even if she found evidence, it probably would not seriously hurt Justin.

He had plenty of ways to remove himself from the situation.

Moving too fast would only backfire.

When dealing with Justin, she needed to be extra careful.
