Wynette left Belinda's matter entirely to Shirley.
Just as she was about to head to the design department to check whether Alice had come back, she suddenly got news that Alice had been in a car accident.
Since it was Wynette's car involved, the traffic police contacted her directly and asked her to come over.
The accident scene was only a short distance from Jewell Group.
Wynette hurried there immediately.
By the time she arrived, Alice was already giving her statement to the police.
Wynette's car had been crushed between a delivery truck and a cement mixer like the filling in a sandwich.
From the looks of it, the truck behind them had rear-ended the car and shoved it straight into the cement truck ahead.
Alice must have reacted fast and turned the wheel at the last second.
The truck driver had also managed to brake in time.
Even though the front and back of the car were totaled, thankfully, Alice herself was not badly hurt.
Otherwise, Wynette would have had no idea how to explain this to Jamie.
After confirming her identity and answering a few questions from the police, Wynette walked over to Alice.
Alice looked pale, but there were no visible injuries on her.
As expected, her version of events matched Wynette's guess almost perfectly.
Luckily, Alice had swerved slightly to the left before the impact.
Both she and the passenger in the back seat had been sitting on the left side, while the right side took most of the damage.
Things could have ended far worse.
Alice gave Wynette a small reassuring smile. "The police said the truck driver nodded off for a second from exhaustion and drifted into us. Good thing he hit the brakes fast enough."
She glanced at the wrecked car and laughed weakly. "At least he didn't panic and step on the gas instead of the brake. That probably softened the crash a lot. Otherwise, we really would've been flattened in there."
She was clearly trying to ease Wynette's worries with a joke.
Then she looked at the destroyed car again and apologized awkwardly. "Sorry. The first time I borrow your car, and I end up wrecking it. I'll get you a new car."
The damage was so bad that Alice genuinely felt guilty.
Wynette gave her an exasperated look. "Is this really the time to talk about the car? The important thing is that you're okay. No. You're going to the hospital for a full checkup. I'm not taking any chances. Are things finished here yet?"
As she spoke, Wynette greeted the traffic officer nearby and explained that she wanted to take Alice and the others to the hospital first.
Most of the paperwork had already been handled anyway. Any remaining details could be sorted out over the phone later.
Ignoring Alice's objections, Wynette brought both of them straight to the hospital for examinations.
Meanwhile, Adriel had already heard about the accident. He called Wynette immediately. "Where are you?"
There was clear panic in his voice.
"At Mercy Hospital. We're in the ER," Wynette replied.
She had already registered Alice and the others for emergency exams the moment they arrived.
The second she finished speaking, Adriel said, "I'm on my way."
Then he hung up.
Before Wynette could even process it, Adriel was already rushing toward her.
His eyes swept over her from head to toe. "Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine. Alice borrowed my car. She's doing a full-body checkup right now," Wynette explained honestly.
Right now, she was more worried about Alice.
The moment Adriel heard she was safe, he finally let out a breath.
He had thought Wynette was the one driving during the accident.
When he first heard the news, it had scared him half to death.
