Chapter 17 Don’t Bring Emotions to Work
Soon, Wynette received another provocative message from Lorelei.
As usual, it was a photo of her and Noah looking extremely close.
Staring at the screen, Wynette felt nothing at all.
Her expression remained calm as she simply took a screenshot and saved it.
Then she went back to what she was doing, her mood completely unaffected.
Now that the house had been sold, there were still other things she needed to sort out.
Originally, Wynette had planned to meet someone the next day.
But early the next morning, she was woken up by a phone call from Jasmine.
Wynette picked it up.
Jasmine’s shocked voice came through immediately. “Ms. Jewell, did you check the chat?”
“No. What happened?” Wynette instantly became sober.
She switched the phone to speaker and opened the group chat.
The group had been created back when they were developing the game.
Noah was the group owner.

It seemed that he added someone new to the group, which sparked a heated wave of complaints.
“The game is about to enter testing, and now you suddenly add someone through connections? What kind of move is that?”
“Exactly! We’ve all been working day and night, rushing the schedule, just so someone else can take the credit?”
“I only trust Ms. Jewell. I’m waiting to hear what she says!”
“Agree. I only trust Ms. Jewell, too.”
“Agree.”
“Agree.”

“Agree.”
“So where’s Ms. Jewell?”

When Wynette opened the chat, she saw that everyone was tagging her.
As she scrolled up to read the earlier messages and figure out what had happened, Jasmine spoke again.
Her tone was anxious. “Mr. Shepherd added someone to the group and announced she’s the new Planning Manager. Everyone is upset. We’ve worked our tails off for months, and now he just shoves someone in at the last minute and even wants her name listed.
“Ms. Jewell, didn’t we say the Planning Manager position would be chosen internally after the game officially launches? What is Mr. Shepherd trying to do? This is our studio’s matter. How can he mess with it like this?”
Jasmine’s complaint was filled with frustration.
She became even angrier after learning that the newly added person had a close relationship with Noah.
But he wasn’t just a partner in the studio-he was also the largest investor.
As employees, even if they were unhappy with the decision, they didn’t dare openly challenge it.
By the time Jasmine finished speaking, Wynette had already read through the entire chat history.
The situation wasn’t much different from what her assistant described.
Noah had indeed added Lorelei to the group and announced that she would be the Planning Manager.
After his announcement, Lorelei briefly greeted everyone.
Then the group chat exploded with criticism, and the tone quickly grew heated.
Meanwhile, Noah and Lorelei stopped responding after their initial messages.
Wynette finally said slowly, “Got it. I’ll handle it.”
She couldn’t help cursing Noah in her mind.
He really couldn’t stand seeing her have a peaceful life.
It was supposed to be a relaxing weekend, yet he had managed to ruin two days in a row.

Originally, Wynette planned to officially announce Lorelei’s arrival at the office the next day.
She knew the staff would have objections, but at least she could calm them face-to-face.
Now, feeling everyone’s anger through the screen left her feeling helpless.
Jasmine seemed to hear the helplessness in Wynette’s voice and asked carefully, “Ms. Jewell, is there really no room for discussion about this?”
Deep down, she already knew the answer. Noah had added the person to the group and made the announcement. It was obvious he was backing Lorelei.
In doing so, he had protected that woman, but at the cost of stepping all over Wynette’s dignity.
He hadn’t cared about Wynette’s feelings at all. As her fiancé, he had gone too far.
Even Jasmine felt that Wynette didn’t deserve it.
Wynette sighed. “The facts are already there. Don’t bring personal emotions into your work. Okay?”
Jasmine knew Wynette was only looking out for her. “I get it, Ms. Jewell. Are you… okay?”
“I’m perfectly fine. Don’t worry about me,” Wynette replied with a small smile.
She truly didn’t think it was a big deal.
It was simply because Noah didn’t like her, so he didn’t bother protecting her dignity.
And how much was dignity really worth?
If sacrificing a little pride meant the game could launch on time, and everyone who had worked hard for months could receive a generous bonus, Wynette thought it was worth it.
After ending the call, she looked at the group chat and finally posted a message.
“Welcome to our new member. I’d also like to thank Mr. Shepherd for his generous support, which has allowed the game to launch on schedule. As the studio’s largest investor, he surely has his reasons for making this decision. Everyone has worked hard over the past few months. I sincerely appreciate all your efforts.
“I love this game, and I believe all of you do too. It was created through everyone’s dedication and hard work. I’m sure everyone can understand Mr. Shepherd’s decision and support his intentions. On behalf of the entire team, I’d like to thank Mr. Shepherd. The game is about to launch, so let’s celebrate and wish our game great success.”

After sending the message, Wynette sent everyone 200 dollars through Venmo in the group chat.
Her message subtly reminded everyone that Noah, as the financial backer, had the authority to make such decisions. She also carefully hinted that they shouldn’t act impulsively.
As long as the game launched successfully, everyone would get their bonuses.
It was only a title and a name on the credits. They shouldn’t let pride affect their money.
After she finished, Noah, who had remained silent until then, suddenly sent everyone money through Venmo as well.
Then Lorelei followed his lead and sent the same amount as Noah.
Following Wynette’s message, people in the group began to respond with thanks.
“Thank you, Ms. Jewell! Thank you, Mr. Shepherd!”
