Chapter 21 You Still Can Think It Over
When Wynette woke up, she realized she was in the hospital.
The ward was empty.

Lying on the bed, she stared at the white ceiling. An IV was hooked up to her right hand, and her whole body felt miserable.
She only remembered being forced to drink three glasses of wine before going into allergic shock and passing out.
Right before she blacked out, she thought she saw…
Wynette suddenly sat up in bed. The IV needle in the back of her hand jerked, making her hiss in pain.
It hurts!
Because she had gotten up too quickly, blood had started flowing back into the IV tube.
Instinctively, Wynette lowered her hand to keep it steady.
Just then, a tall figure stepped up beside her.
Wynette looked up and froze for a moment. “You…”
So the person she saw before losing consciousness really was him. It hadn’t been a hallucination.
But shouldn’t he be on a business trip right now?
How did he end up appearing here at such a perfect moment?
Countless questions rushed through Wynette’s mind.
The man standing there was Adriel.
Adriel had strikingly handsome features and a sharp, straight nose, as if every line of his face had been carefully sculpted. His deep eyes seemed to hold an entire galaxy, pulling people in if they stared too long.
At the moment, though, his expression carried clear displeasure.
Adriel glanced coldly at the bruised and swollen back of Wynette’s hand and snorted. “It hasn’t even been that long since I last saw you, and you’ve already managed to get yourself into this kind of mess?
“Wynette, since when did you become this pathetic? Someone tells you to drink, and you just

drink? Don’t you know you’re allergic to grapes?”

He paused slightly before continuing, “Or are you so deeply in love with Noah that you’d risk your life just to prove how great your love is?”
His thin, attractive lips delivered cold and merciless words.
Wynette could clearly hear the heavy sarcasm in his voice.
And he wasn’t finished.
Before she could respond, Adriel continued with another icy remark, “Truly touching. Such a tragic and heroic love story.”
Faced with his machine-gun-like sarcasm, Wynette was completely stunned.
She couldn’t even find words to argue back.
Her usual sharp tongue disappeared entirely in front of him.
In Adriel’s presence, Wynette was instantly defeated.
He seemed completely oblivious to how pale and weak she looked. His words showed no mercy at all.
Of course, Wynette was still very weak right now.
And with Adriel suddenly appearing, her mind was still in a daze, making her reactions slower than usual.
All she could do was stare blankly at Adriel’s tense face. She mumbled, “Why are you here?”
She asked the question instinctively, clearly not even processing the angry lecture he had just given her.
Adriel’s expression remained dark. “Shouldn’t the thing you care about right now be your own health?”
And
yet she still had the leisure to ask why he was here.
Just hearing that made him want to crack open her head and see what exactly was inside.
Wynette answered without thinking, “I’m already awake, aren’t I? I’m fine. At worst, I’m just a little weak. I’m not dying anytime soon.”
She tried to joke about it.
Although it had felt like a near-death experience, she didn’t think it was that big of a deal.

Seeing that she could still joke around while lying in bed, Adriel figured she probably wasn’t in danger anymore.
His face stayed expressionless as he shot back, “You were one step away from death.”
If he hadn’t arrived in time, given her allergy medicine, and rushed her to the hospital, she probably would’ve been dead already.
Of course, he didn’t say those ominous words out loud.
At that moment, Wynette finally caught something he had said earlier. “Wait-how did you know I’m allergic to grapes?”
She hadn’t heard wrong just now, right?
He had definitely said she was allergic to grapes.
So how did he know that?
Adriel still sneered. “We grew up together. Do you think I don’t know about you at all?”
That explanation made Wynette realize something.
That was true. She hadn’t just grown up with Noah.
Strictly speaking, Noah, Wynette, and Adriel had all grown up together.
Adriel had always been serious as a child, acting mature beyond his years and rarely smiling.
Because he was always so stern and quiet, Wynette had been a little afraid of him since she was little.
Naturally, she ended up spending more time with the gentle and refined Noah.
Since Noah and Adriel had never gotten along, she gradually grew more distant from Adriel as well.
The year the Jewell Group almost went bankrupt, her family had even gone to the Gallaghers for help.
But the Gallaghers showed no mercy. They threw Ryker out and mocked him.
They even tried to take advantage of the chaos to buy out the Jewell Group.
If the Shepherds hadn’t stepped in to guarantee, the Jewell Group probably would’ve already been carved up by the Gallaghers.
That was also why Wynette later became so hostile toward Adriel.

Adriel’s expression remained cold as he said again, “Every time you see me, you act like some wild cat, claws out and ready to fight. But in front of that jerk Noah, you turn into a harmless bunny.
“Wynette, look at yourself. Are you really still not over him?” His voice dropped slightly.
To Wynette, his words oddly carried a hint of frustration, like someone disappointed that she hadn’t done better.
She couldn’t help wondering if she was imagining things.
Given how hostile their relationship had always been, shouldn’t Adriel be here just to enjoy watching her humiliation?
After all, they had never gotten along.
