He Loves Me Right, Finally novel Chapter 29

Chapter 29 This Is Only the Beginning

Wynette did not know whether Marcus would really offer a high price.

But what she was certain of was that he would buy her shares.

If nothing else, he would never miss a chance to make Noah uncomfortable.

For Wynette, selling the shares would both cut her ties with Noah and bring her a decent amount of money. There was no downside to it.

She felt there was no reason to turn down a deal that could only benefit her.

Adriel curled his lips slightly. “Noah and I are rivals, too. Didn’t you think about selling the shares to me? After all, our relationship is closer now.”

Wynette froze for a moment.

What he said did make some sense.

When she decided to sell her shares in the studio, Adriel had not even crossed her mind.

They had been in contact on and off during this time.

So why had I not thought of him?

Wynette lowered her eyes and quietly asked herself the question.

But she could not come up with an answer.

When no reply came from her for a long time, Adriel’s eyes darkened slightly with displeasure.

His voice sounded heavy. “Looks like I wasn’t your first choice. In the end, I guess I just don’t measure up.”

There was even a clear hint of grievance at the end of his words.

Wynette’s eyes widened in disbelief. “That’s not what I meant. I never said that. Don’t put words in my mouth.”

She hurried to explain. “That’s not what I meant at all. You’re the eldest son of the Gallagher family. How could you not measure up? Don’t think like that.”

She had no idea why he jumped straight to the idea that he was somehow not good enough.

The real problem was that Adriel truly had not been her first choice.

But how was she supposed to explain that?

Before Wynette could figure out how to answer, Adriel spoke again. “Then why didn’t you sell

the shares to me?”

He brought the question up again.

This time, however, his tone no longer carried the earlier disappointment. Instead, there was a faint hint of curiosity.

At first, Adriel had indeed felt it was unfair that Wynette had not thought of him immediately. But seeing her flustered reaction just now had unexpectedly amused him.

Wynette sighed helplessly. “I can’t sell you shares that don’t really have value and make you take the loss and the risk.”

In the end, she chose to explain the truth clearly.

Adriel raised an eyebrow. “Oh? What do you mean?”

He found it interesting that selling to Marcus was supposedly guaranteed profit, yet selling to him would mean taking a loss.

What exactly was she thinking?

Wynette answered honestly. “To be honest, the studio released several popular games before, and the profits were pretty good. But right now we’re basically living off those past successes. Sooner or later, that would run out.

“The game I’ve been developing won’t be launched anymore. Without a new game supporting the studio, it’s stuck at last year’s level with no real progress. Mr. Gallagher, do you really think shares like that still have value?”

That was also the reason Wynette was willing to give up her shares so quickly.

Of course, whether the studio’s profits increased or not didn’t matter much to Noah.

With a giant corporation like Shepherd Group behind him, the studio was optional to him.

Compared with Noah, the people Wynette truly worried about were the teammates who had built the studio with her from the very beginning.

She knew that once Noah learned she had sold her shares, he might even shut down the studio entirely.

If that happened, what would her teammates do?

Wynette quickly calculated things in her mind. No matter what, she had to make sure their livelihoods were protected.

Adriel frowned. “So when you went upstairs earlier, you didn’t reach an agreement with Noah?”

He had thought Wynette would keep compromising like before.

Wynette shook her head. “I can’t keep letting Noah control me. This is only the first step toward getting free.”

That was why she rushed over from the hospital. Not to keep tolerating things, but to break things off completely.

Adriel almost failed to suppress the smile on his lips.

According to Wynette’s explanation, buying the shares himself would indeed mean taking a loss.

Wynette caught the smile at the corner of his mouth from the corner of her eye. It seemed her explanation made sense to him.

“Then if you sell the shares to Marcus … aren’t you worried he’ll come after you later?” Adriel reminded her that Marcus was not an easy person to deal with.

Wynette answered coldly, “Marcus is basically the same kind of person as Noah. He insulted me before. Besides, every business deal has risks. If Marcus doesn’t do proper research before investing, that’s not my problem.”

Wynette had already thought about that possibility and prepared for it.

A deal was voluntary on both sides. Whatever happened afterward would not be her responsibility.

If Marcus ended up regretting it, that would only mean his investment judgment was poor.

Adriel had originally been worried Wynette might suffer a loss.

But after hearing her reasoning, he finally relaxed.

Good. At least she would not be the one getting taken advantage of.

Wynette had always been smart. The only exception was the way she had blindly loved Noah all those years.

But now that she had finally come to her senses, she was not foolish after all.

Adriel held the steering wheel with both hands while lightly tapping it with his right index finger.

After a moment, he asked, “Is Joanne going with you to meet Marcus tomorrow?”

Adriel felt reassured that Joanne would be there.

His sister was definitely not someone who would allow herself to be taken advantage of.

Wynette did not know why he asked, but she answered honestly. “Yes.”

Given the relationship between Adriel and Joanne, Wynette felt there was no reason to hide it.

Even if she did not say anything, Adriel could easily ask his sister and get the same answer.

After hearing her reply, Adriel simply nodded.

He did not ask any further questions and focused on driving.

Wynette had expected him to keep pressing the topic, so she was surprised when he said nothing else.
