He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 108

The only meals he would reliably stomach were the ones she cooked. It had been this way since the day they tied the knot. So whenever he was home, she instinctively prepared every meal. He leaned against the doorframe, watching her work. She could feel the heavy weight of his stare. Forcing her racing heart to calm down, she rationalized her actions with perfect logic. She was cooking for herself and her baby, not for him. Besides, she couldn't afford to trigger another violent fight—not while Wynn's life rested entirely in his hands. Finding comfort in that thought, she slowly relaxed. Once the meal was finished, Sebastian naturally stepped forward to carry the plates out to the dining table. They sat down and ate in silence. "I want to go see Wynn. It's been days, he has to be stable by now," she suddenly demanded, shattering the quiet. He didn't miss a beat. "We wait for the doctor's clearance. I've told you already, going there now only risks a cross-infection, which does him absolutely no good. Besides, he's locked in the ICU. You wouldn't even be allowed inside the room." "I'm fine with just watching him through the monitors," she pushed, refusing to back down. This finally forced him to lift his gaze. She met his stare without a shred of hesitation. "Helena, drop it," he ordered, his tone leaving zero room for argument. "Sebastian, I..." she started, still trying to press the issue. But she knew him too well; his shift in demeanor meant the conversation was over. Sure enough, he stood up abruptly. Every muscle in her body locked up. Years of ingrained trauma triggered a desperate urge to run. She was terrified he was going to snap and hit her. Her arms reflexively crossed over her stomach to protect the baby. But suddenly, she froze completely. He had circled the table and wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his sharp jawbone gently against her shoulder. At seventeen weeks pregnant, her baby bump wasn't entirely obvious to the eye, but there was a distinct curve beneath her loose maternity clothes if someone touched it. "Relax," he coaxed, his voice dropping to a smooth rumble. His massive hand easily covered both of hers, pressing them gently against the swell of her stomach. Even though she was pregnant, pulling her into his chest only highlighted how frighteningly fragile she felt. A knot of displeasure formed between his brows. His sudden display of physical intimacy completely short-circuited her brain. "It's not that I'm keeping you from seeing him. The timing is just wrong. First, his vitals are incredibly unstable. Second, the doctor warned that flu season is currently peaking. Pregnant women need to minimize their exposure, let alone risk wandering around a hospital," he explained rationally. He kept her pinned against him, laying out the facts with methodical precision. "You're carrying a child, and I simply don't want you stepping foot in a hospital right now. Once Wynn is out of the ICU, I will personally arrange for you to see him." His tone was remarkably sincere—so sincere that she couldn't find a single logical flaw to argue against. She felt the control slipping through her fingers again. He trailed off, his large hands resting intimately over her lower stomach. "It's gotten bigger, hasn't it?" "Yeah," she replied, her mind completely scrambled by the distraction. "Seventeen weeks now, right?" he asked casually. The exact number stunned her for a second. She hadn't expected him to keep track. But the tiny spark of hope instantly died in her chest. Right. After all, Janetta had gotten pregnant at the exact same time. How could he possibly forget the timeline? Even if he didn't give a damn about her, he would always obsess over Janetta. Just like he was doing right now.
