Helena Wallace met Sebastian Hayes's gaze head-on, though from the corner of her eye, she was watching Janetta Ramirez. Suddenly, she understood exactly how it felt to play the role of the wicked villainess. It was absolutely exhilarating.
"Are you really going to go public?" Helena asked lightly. "Aren't you worried it will break Janetta's heart?"
"She won't. She's always been perfectly understanding. She wouldn't make things difficult for me over something like this," Sebastian said with absolute certainty.
Helena looked down, letting out a soft laugh. "Why are you trying to coax me like this, Sebastian?" she continued.
When she looked back up, a radiant, captivating smile danced in her eyes. For a split second, Sebastian was caught entirely off guard.
Her voice drifted to his ears, laced with a mocking, almost flirtatious edge. "Don't tell me you've actually fallen in love with me? Hoping we can kiss and make up?"
Sebastian's expression instantly darkened. His features tightened with displeasure, clearly thinking Helena was pushing her luck.
But Helena had achieved her goal. She could see the color completely drain from Janetta's face, the other woman too paralyzed to even step forward and intervene.
Janetta knew exactly what choice Sebastian would make when his precious shares were on the line. For seven years of marriage, Janetta had clung to Sebastian at every opportunity, exploiting her proximity to him. But now, the tables had finally turned.
Helena held all the cards. She watched as Janetta spun on her heel and hurried away, her pace quickening into a near run, while Helena remained flawlessly composed.
"You're delusional, Helena. I could never love you. I'm only humoring you for those shares," Sebastian said with ruthless precision. "Consider it a crumb of pity for all those years you spent hopelessly devoted to me."
Every single word was a deliberate dagger to her chest. But she truly didn't care anymore.
