He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 196

In the past, that image would have sparked an immediate pang of sympathy.

But now, he just felt inexplicably annoyed.

Coupled with everything else that had recently transpired, his patience for her theatrics was running dangerously thin.

Outwardly, however, he chose not to tear the facade down completely.

"Sebastian..." Her sobs grew louder.

"Yeah," he responded, his tone utterly dry.

She had always been highly perceptive. How could she not notice the shift?

Panic clawing at her, she quickly pivoted to appease him. "I miss you."

He didn't offer a reassuring reply, merely listening to the silence stretch.

Before, he would have easily mirrored the sentiment and coaxed her with sweet words.

Now, he seemed entirely unbothered.

Her fear skyrocketed. She dropped her voice to a desperate whisper. "The baby hasn't been behaving well lately. It's so restless every single day. When you were here, the baby was so good... I think it misses its daddy."

She paused for maximum effect. "Are you going to come see the baby?"

Everything was spiraling completely out of her control.

He understood her ploy perfectly well, but his answer was mercilessly detached.

"Jana," he called her name.

"I'm here," she replied obediently.

"I'm waiting for you right where you left me," he stated, enunciating every syllable.

That single sentence drained the remaining color from her face.

He was telling her to return to Riverton. He was making it incredibly clear that he would not be flying to Boston to fetch her.

Her entire master plan had backfired spectacularly.

A crushing wave of helpless panic washed over her.

Yet, she refused to bow her head in defeat.

He listened in silence before replying with cool detachment. "You know better than I do that he doesn't exactly have the best temper."

She bit her lip, saying nothing.

"You insisted on running off abroad, and that clearly rubbed him the wrong way. Expecting him to cave under these circumstances is highly unlikely," Beau pointed out.

"But you know my situation..." she trailed off.

"You need to explain everything to him face-to-face. Pulling stunts like this will only blow up in your face. In my opinion, you've pushed things far enough. You're a smart girl; you should understand what I'm getting at," he finished his warning.

Janetta fell entirely silent.

With nothing more to say, they ended the call.

The room was terrifyingly quiet.

She stared at her tear-streaked reflection, finally realizing she had surrendered all her leverage.

With a furious shriek, she swept the mirror off the vanity. The sound of shattering glass echoed through the room.

Everything was ruined.
