Whenever a camera panned their way, it caught Sebastian Hayes doting on Helena Wallace. Whenever they ran into someone, he generously introduced her as his wife. Janetta Ramirez, meanwhile, had become the one who had to hide in the shadows.
Watching the live feeds from Boston, Janetta's expression twisted into something terrifying. The room was already a disaster zone, shattered objects scattered across the floor. The maids stood nearby, terrified to step forward, terrified of getting caught in the crossfire.
Without thinking, she grabbed her phone to call Sebastian. But at the last second, she ended the call. Her fingers clenched tightly around the device.
"Sebastian, do you really have to push me this far?" Janetta hissed, her voice dripping with resentment. She was panting. A splitting pain tore through her head. Then, a shriek echoed through the master bedroom, sending the maids into a panic. Janetta collapsed weakly to the floor. Chaos completely consumed the room.
...
Ever since that banquet, Helena and Sebastian seemed closer than ever. Even though she knew it was all an act, his twisted brand of gentleness spun a suffocating web around her. It was a contradiction that left her breathless at times. Still, she remained steadfast in what she needed to do. Her resolve to leave him had never wavered. But amidst that ironclad determination, she occasionally caught herself zoning out, lost in a daze that made everything feel surreal. Yet, because of his act, her days had undeniably become easier. At the very least, she no longer had to live in constant fear of what he might do to her next.
"Mrs. Hayes, Mr. Hayes is waiting for you outside," The Butler said with a warm smile.
"Alright," Helena nodded.
As she entered the later stages of her pregnancy, her baby bump grew rapidly, yet her overall weight barely budged. Her slender frame carrying such a prominent bump was enough to make anyone anxious. Because of this, The Butler shadowed her every step with the utmost caution.
Today was her prenatal checkup, and Sebastian was personally escorting her. Given her prior spotting and the baby's unstable position, the doctor had ordered bi-weekly visits to the hospital. On top of that, the baby had been completely uncooperative during her last ultrasound, meaning they had to try again today.
