The people around them couldn't help but exchange bewildered glances.
Sebastian bringing Helena out in public was already a massive shock.
For years, the woman standing beside him had always been Janetta.
The frequency of Helena's recent appearances was nothing short of mind-boggling.
And even with Janetta, he had never been this indulgent; he had always maintained a certain level of restraint.
Anyone with eyes could see that Helena's bizarre food request was a deliberate test of his patience.
Known for his notoriously short temper, how could he possibly entertain such an unreasonable demand?
Yet, he actually agreed to it?
The crowd's gaze shifted to Helena, filled with a newfound sense of awe.
"Mr. Hayes, you really do dote on your wife."
"You've been hiding Mrs. Hayes all these years, terrified she might suffer the slightest grievance in the public eye, haven't you?"
...
Flattery poured in from all sides.
He just offered a polite, noncommittal smile, saying nothing.
Helena remained equally silent.
"I'm going to play my round," he told her in a low voice.
"Okay," she nodded.
The moment the word left her lips, he leaned down and pressed a lingering kiss against her forehead, completely unbothered by the audience.
She froze.
She hadn't seen that coming at all.
The golf course was a highly public venue, which meant The Press were undoubtedly lurking nearby.
The intimate moment was instantly captured on camera.
He, on the other hand, acted as if it were the most natural thing in the world, casually pulling back before stepping away.
Then, he got into his golf cart and drove off toward the course.
It took her a long time to finally regain her composure.
By the time she did, the waiter had already brought out a steaming bowl of spicy beef noodles.
She kept her head down, eating quietly, utterly baffled by whatever twisted game he was playing.
She was entirely unaccustomed to these blatant, public displays of affection.
But she decided not to overthink it.
He had already signed The Divorce Agreement, after all.
So she would play along.
But he had never actually divested his shares.
Technically speaking, they were still business partners.
Over the years, however, he had completely severed all contact with them—or more accurately, he had completely severed contact with her.
She forced her racing heart to calm down, maintaining a mask of perfect composure.
Sebastian finally reached her. "Why didn't you finish?"
He asked casually, eyeing her food.
More than half the noodles were left in the bowl, and she had barely touched the fruit.
"I'm full," she murmured.
He hummed in acknowledgment, naturally picking up her water glass and taking a sip.
She thought the gesture was unnecessarily intimate.
But then she remembered they were supposed to be playing the part of a deeply in love couple, so she kept her mouth shut.
Out of the corner of her eye, she tracked Julian's approach.
He was getting closer and closer.
This was the first time she had been in such close proximity to him in years.
And she knew his volatile temper better than anyone.
