For a split second, Julian's fingers hooked gently around hers.
But he released her just as quickly.
He probably didn't want to make things even harder for her while Sebastian was hovering over her.
Helena's heart was pounding out of her chest the entire time.
It wasn't until Sebastian had dragged her completely out of sight that she finally let out a shaky breath.
But the suffocating tension between them hadn't vanished.
As they turned a corner, Sebastian abruptly stopped in his tracks.
Helena wasn't paying attention and crashed right into his hard back.
His deep, threatening voice practically vibrated against her ear. "Are you really in that much of a hurry to get away from me?"
It was an interrogation.
But there was something else beneath his tone that she couldn't quite decipher.
She looked up at him, refusing to cower.
Her answer was ice cold. "Yes. I dream about it."
She gave him a hollow, mocking smile that didn't reach her eyes.
Every word she spoke was designed to remind him of reality.
"Don't forget, Mr. Hayes, you've already signed The Divorce Agreement. We're just a business transaction now. Let's not pretend otherwise."
She couldn't have been any clearer.
He didn't say a single word.
He just kept staring at her with those bottomless dark eyes.
She didn't back down either.
The silence between them was deafening.
"Let's go eat. Everyone is waiting," he finally muttered, breaking the standoff.
With that, he turned on his heel and strode toward the dining area.
Helena finally exhaled.
But this reaction left her completely baffled.
He didn't explode?
Shocked by his restraint, she stood frozen in place for a few seconds.
Sebastian quickly noticed she wasn't walking beside him.
He slowed down, turning back with a dark scowl.
