Wherever Julian went, Janetta's dignity was bound to be ripped to shreds.
It wasn't that she hadn't tried to win him over. After all, a man of his immense status was worth kissing up to.
But Julian never gave her a single inch of respect.
For the longest time, she couldn't figure out how she had offended him.
But after today's blatant mockery, it finally clicked. Julian was doing this to protect Helena.
The realization fueled her bitter resentment.
Yet, she didn't dare cross a man as powerful as Julian Campbell.
"Ms. Ramirez, play with fire long enough, and you're bound to get burned, hmm?" Julian offered a parting warning with a smirk.
Without waiting for a response, he turned on his heel and strode away, his security detail falling into step behind him.
The last ounce of color drained from Janetta's face.
"Janetta!" Beau's expression tightened with concern.
He swiftly scooped her up into his arms and carried her away from the peering eyes.
Meanwhile, Helena and Sebastian had already settled into the back seat of his luxury car.
The moment the doors clicked shut, Sebastian dropped his arm from Helena's waist and stared blankly out the window.
Helena glanced at him, her expression an impenetrable mask of calm.
Sebastian caught her look.
"Aren't you going to check on her? Her illness wasn't an act this time," Helena stated dryly.
Sebastian's dark gaze shifted to her, but he ignored the question entirely.
"Has anyone ever told you how deeply ruthless you are, Mr. Hayes?" she asked, meeting his stare without flinching.
Helena used to think he saved his cruelty solely for her.
She believed he always left a safety net for Janetta.
But now, she realized the chilling truth. The only person Sebastian Hayes truly loved was himself.
He might care for Janetta, but he would absolutely crush her the moment she dared to challenge his authority.
Helena lowered her head, letting out a barely audible, bitter laugh.
Compared to Janetta, her status was even lower.
On the day she married him, he had already sentenced her to a life of emotional starvation.
The driver immediately maneuvered the sleek vehicle to the curb.
Helena looked at him, utterly bewildered by his sudden command.
"Didn't you want spicy noodle hot pot?" Sebastian asked plainly.
She was shocked he had even noticed.
A slow, radiant smile spread across her face. "So, Mr. Hayes is buying it for me?"
She knew full well he would never lower himself to buy her something so common. She only said it to get under his skin.
Her gaze flicked to the rearview mirror.
She spotted Beau Sterling's car idling a short distance away.
Janetta was in that car.
This road was the most direct route to the hospital, so it made perfect sense for Beau's car to be trailing them.
Helena's sarcastic question made Sebastian's gaze darken dangerously as he stared her down.
She didn't look away.
