He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 399

The assistant felt a chill crawl up his spine just listening to her.

But he gave a sharp nod. "Understood."

Without another second of hesitation, he turned and slipped out the door.

Janetta remained rigidly by the window, watching the empty courtyard where Sebastian and Helena had just been.

She didn't even dare call him to push for the cornea transplant.

Her lowered eyes burned with unadulterated venom.

The room sank into a suffocating, terrifying silence.

Meanwhile.

Sebastian had settled Helena back into her hospital bed.

The Doctor arrived for her routine check-up.

She remained entirely detached and emotionless.

But she cooperated flawlessly with every instruction.

Her only driving force in life was the desperate need to take her daughter away.

She had to stay alive to make that happen.

"How is her recovery progressing?" Sebastian asked, his voice low.

"Mrs. Hayes is stabilizing beautifully. You don't need to worry too much," The Doctor assured him.

Sebastian grunted in response.

The Doctor didn't push his luck and swiftly exited the room.

Sebastian watched him leave, then fell perfectly still.

Through the glass panel of the door, he spotted the sharp uniform of The Police.

His expression remained a mask of flawless indifference, and from where Helena was resting, she couldn't see the hallway.

"Get some rest if you're tired," he said, his tone perfectly flat.

She didn't reply; she simply leaned back against the pillows and closed her eyes to fake sleep.

If given the choice, she would rather never look at him again.

The psychological weight of being in his presence was simply too suffocating.

It was a visceral, instinctual repulsion.

Perhaps the love was truly dead, and she refused to let him manipulate her emotions any longer.

His gaze darkened. He stared at her beautiful, pale face, his lips parting slightly.

"But I do not want you showing your faces anywhere near her. Spiking her heart rate will only trigger a massive physical relapse. I will handle the legal complications shortly," he stated.

It wasn't a request; it was an absolute command.

"Understood," the officer agreed, knowing better than to cross the billionaire.

After the brief standoff, Sebastian turned back toward the room.

Just then, Carter Miles practically sprinted down the hall toward him.

"Mr. Hayes, we still have absolutely zero leads on a viable donor cornea," Carter said, his face grim.

He threw a wary glance toward the cops. "The precinct was pressured by Ms. Ramirez's team to step up their presence."

Carter paused before delivering the killing blow. "She's clearly sending you a message. Also, her own vision is deteriorating rapidly. Her medical team is pushing for an immediate transplant. If we wait until she goes completely blind, the optic nerve damage might be irreversible. Even a new cornea wouldn't save her then."

Carter laid out all the facts with ruthless efficiency.

From a survival standpoint, Janetta's panic was entirely justified.

Everyone fights for their own survival.

Carter understood the brutal pragmatism of it.

But the power over life and death rested solely in Sebastian's hands.
