He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 436

"I'm just begging you, give her back to me. Even if it's just her ashes, let me have this one last piece of her."

Helena spoke with a chilling, hollow detachment.

Sebastian stood there, watching her, and it would be a lie to say he remained entirely unaffected.

As she spoke, Helena suddenly crumpled to the floor, abandoning whatever was left of her pride.

"Sebastian, I'm begging you. If you truly believe I've committed some unforgivable sin, you can torture me all you want. But please, give her back. Let me take care of her. At the very least, let me finish what I started. I brought her into this world; I need to be responsible for her."

Her tone had scraped the absolute bottom of human dignity.

She just knelt there, looking up at him quietly.

"Get up," Sebastian commanded, his voice dark and heavy.

"Sebastian, even if you won't let me make the final decision... can you at least let me personally take her to be cremated?" Helena pressed.

It was as if she were retreating step by excruciating step.

Until she was backed against a sheer cliff with nowhere else to go.

Even the conditions she begged for had become pitifully small.

"The cremation is scheduled for Saturday. After that, we sign the death certificate," Sebastian said deeply.

It was his way of agreeing.

Helena grew completely still. "Thank you."

She sounded so peaceful, yet so utterly degraded.

Sebastian didn't spare her another glance.

He turned and walked away.

Only then did Helena quietly push herself off the floor and head toward her room, her demeanor plunging into an even deeper state of eerie calm.

The maids standing nearby didn't dare make a sound. They all kept their heads down, walking on eggshells.

Their silence masked deep pity and sympathy for her.

Probably no mother in the world had ever been reduced to such a pathetic, broken state.

Helena returned to her room and sat down on the chaise lounge by the bay window, staring into space without a word.

When Sebastian finished his business and came back upstairs, he found her sitting there like a ghost.

He frowned. "Why aren't you resting?"

She just looked at him with that dead, tranquil stare, offering no reply.

Her eyes were practically numb.

Then, she turned back to gaze out the window.
