Sebastian stared at his phone as the call ended, his face an unreadable mask.
It was a stark contrast to his earlier gentleness.
Helena knew this icy shift was directed entirely at her.
Having finally calmed down from the earlier chaos, she wrenched herself from his grip and retreated to a safe distance.
Her gaze remained fixed on Sebastian.
"Sebastian, if you're so worried about Janetta, why did you even come looking for me?" Helena demanded.
Then she let out a soft laugh, unsure if she was mocking herself or him.
"Just to save face? Because we haven't finalized the divorce yet, and another man swooped in to help me out of a crisis? Did that bruise your ego?" Even as she said these words, Helena remained remarkably calm.
Sebastian didn't answer.
But his displeasure was palpable in the heavy silence.
He wanted to see just how far Helena would push this.
He heard her laughing—a soft, airy sound entirely devoid of emotion.
"Like I said, I don't care about those shares, and I won't use them to threaten you. Just let me go. Can't we just get a divorce?" Her final words were laced with a suffocating wave of despair.
Instead of swaying Sebastian, her words only fueled his anger.
His face darkened as he closed the distance between them.
Helena stumbled backward.
The memory of what had just happened still sent shivers of terror down her spine.
But this time, Sebastian didn't seem intent on hurting her.
He simply pinned her with a somber, predatory gaze and declared coldly, "Helena, you have no right to bring up divorce."
"Isn't Janetta pregnant? Are you planning to give her and the baby a proper status?" Helena asked, her tone completely flat.
They were standing so close.
Yet Sebastian could no longer find that spark of adoration that used to light up her eyes whenever she looked at him.
The Helena standing before him was unnervingly detached, looking at him as if he were nothing more than an irrelevant object.
