He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 54

"Lena, what's going on? I just received a seven-million-dollar transfer," Lance asked, clearly bewildered.

Helena fell silent for a moment.

Hearing his words, she instantly understood what had happened.

Sebastian had done this.

If he knew the man involved was Lance, tracking down his bank account was practically child's play for a man of his resources.

"Lena?" Lance prompted anxiously when she didn't reply.

"I'm here, Lance. I'm fine, please don't worry," she said, her voice remarkably calm. "Since the money was sent back, just keep it. It won't affect our plans moving forward."

This time, Lance was the one who went quiet.

He quickly connected the dots. "Sebastian found out?"

"Yeah," Helena didn't deny it.

Her blunt honesty left Lance at a loss for words.

He knew all too well that the tangled mess between Helena and Sebastian was something outsiders couldn't just meddle in.

If it were that simple, they would never have gotten married in the first place.

Finally, Lance sighed heavily. "Lena, if anything happens, call me immediately. Don't try to shoulder everything on your own, okay?"

"I know. I won't gamble with my own safety," she promised.

Her assurance gave him a small measure of relief.

Helena ended the call.

The spacious hospital room felt painfully empty, leaving her completely alone once more.

On the wall-mounted television, a news channel was currently broadcasting the scandalous rumors about Sebastian and Janetta.

Sebastian had dropped everything to rush to Janetta's apartment over a single phone call.

And what about her?

Pushed to the brink of a breakdown, she had collapsed in a pool of her own blood, nearly losing her baby.

Janetta's child was destined to be born into a life of luxury, surrounded by doting admirers.

Her own child had no one but her for protection.

Sebastian strode out of the conference room with a face as dark as a thundercloud. The oppressive atmosphere trailing behind him suffocated everyone in his path.

Carter bore the brunt of it, and the rest of the staff smartly kept their heads down, terrified of triggering their boss.

Back in his office, Sebastian casually yanked open his desk drawer, reaching for a pack of cigarettes before enduring another round of useless reports from his incompetent executives.

But as the drawer slid open, his hand froze. Helena's recent medical report sat right on top.

Back before Janetta's pregnancy went public, Helena had complained of some digestive issues, so Sebastian had ordered a full checkup for her.

The report had been sitting in his drawer for ages.

With the constant tension between them lately, the document had completely slipped his mind.

He remembered how terrified she had been, genuinely worried she had contracted some terminal illness.

He hadn't paid her any attention back then, brushing it off as her usual melodramatics.

Now, suddenly confronted with the sealed envelope, his expression darkened. He pulled it out and ripped it open.

A second later, the color completely drained from his face.

The paperwork clearly stated that Helena didn't have a stomach bug. She was pregnant.
