He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 53

Sebastian ignored them completely, offering zero explanations as he pushed his way toward the elevators.

Carter and the bodyguards immediately stepped in to block the surging reporters.

Upstairs, Sebastian found Janetta inside the apartment.

Her eyes were red and swollen, looking as though she had been crying her heart out.

The moment she saw him, she stood up and practically sprinted into his arms.

Despite barely showing, she wore incredibly loose maternity wear, emphasizing her pregnancy and adding an extra layer of fragile vulnerability.

"Sebastian, you're here." Janetta buried her face in his chest, wrapping her arms around him naturally. "I was so terrified just now. I'm so scared this scandal is going to ruin my career."

"It won't. I'm here," Sebastian soothed her.

His reassurance visibly calmed her down.

Still, she pressed herself closer, murmuring softly, "Sebastian, what if one day all my worst fears come true? I'm starting to wonder if keeping this baby was a mistake. I'm terrified they'll grow up and hate me for making them a bastard."

She let out a heavy sigh, sounding genuinely heartbroken.

With tears shimmering in her eyes, she looked up at him—a sight that would make any man's heart ache.

Sebastian wasn't stupid; he knew exactly what she was angling for. She wanted a status.

"Stop overthinking. I said it won't happen, and it won't," he coaxed, though he carefully avoided making any concrete promises.

"Really?" Janetta's eyes grew even redder. "I'm just so scared."

Sebastian continued offering hollow comforts.

But after a while, his patience began to wear thin. He was Sebastian Hayes, after all; his temper was notoriously short.

Still, he kept his irritation masked and didn't snap at her.

Unbidden, his thoughts drifted to Helena.

Helena never badgered him relentlessly over trivial things like this.

The second she sensed a shift in his mood, she would instantly back off, never uttering another word.
