Julian remained a master of suppressing his emotions.
It wasn't until Helena finished reading the scandal headline that she finally turned to him. "Was this your doing?"
Julian let out a quiet breath.
He opened his eyes and met her gaze. "I only bankrupted them. The rest was Sebastian's work."
At his words, a heavy silence fell over Helena.
The privacy partition between the front and back seats had already been raised.
They were completely sealed off in the back of the car.
"Lena," Julian said softly.
She looked up.
"Are you absolutely certain Sebastian won't get suspicious?" Julian asked, his tone dead serious. "He didn't get to where he is today by being a fool."
He kept it straight to the point.
Five years ago, when Helena had nearly died, Julian had wanted nothing more than to tear Sebastian apart with his bare hands.
But Donovan Campbell had locked him down, trapping him in the Campbell estate, rendering him utterly powerless.
Donovan had pointed a trembling finger at him, roaring in his face.
"Do you really think Sebastian Hayes is someone you can destroy just because you're angry? You'll drag yourself and the entire Campbell family down with you! It's sheer lunacy!"
"You claim to care about Helena, but she's lying in a coma right now! Are you sure a war won't get her killed? Sebastian is a terrifyingly brilliant man. Even with all my decades of experience, I wouldn't dare underestimate him!"
It was Donovan's brutal reality check that had forced Julian to stand down.
He had stayed calm only for Helena's sake.
But now, the recent chain of events was bringing all those buried anxieties back to the surface.
He stared intensely at the woman sitting next to him.
Helena kept her eyes lowered, completely serene.
Julian didn't rush her for an answer.
Finally, she looked up. "Julian, him finding out the truth is only a matter of time."
Her words struck him mute.
It was true.
If Helena wanted true vengeance against Sebastian, she couldn't keep her identity a secret forever.
Otherwise, there would be no satisfaction in the revenge.
Julian knew she was biding her time.
Waiting for the perfect moment to rip the mask off and watch the fallout.
