A dull thud echoed through the speaker as the phone hit the floor, followed immediately by the sound of someone collapsing.
All the blood drained from Sebastian's face.
Helena simply stood there in silence, utterly unfazed.
How perfectly ironic. She had hemorrhaged and nearly lost her baby, completely alone, forced to call for an ambulance herself.
Meanwhile, Janetta just had to shed a few fake tears, and Sebastian was ready to drop the world for her.
For the first time, Helena found Janetta's name ironically fitting.
Janetta. What a delicate little flower.
Heh.
Helena thought she had grown completely numb to this blatant favoritism, but the numbness couldn't fully mask the agonizing pain deep in her soul.
It felt like a knife twisting in her heart.
Smack! A sharp slap echoed through the corridor.
Sebastian slapped her with terrifying force, his eyes completely bloodshot in a fit of uncontrollable rage.
He roared at her, "Helena, if anything happens to her, I'll make you pay with your life!"
Without waiting for a response, he spun around and sprinted out of the hospital.
The sheer force of the blow made Helena stumble. She gripped the nearby handrail to steady herself, standing frozen in place as she watched his retreating back.
A sobering clarity washed over her. She couldn't afford to stay in Riverton for another second.
She had to move up her timeline and escape immediately.
Sebastian now believed she was pregnant, albeit thinking she had aborted it.
She had no idea how long this flimsy lie would hold up.
If he found out the truth, she was terrified his wrath would ultimately destroy the baby still growing inside her.
And if that happened, she would never forgive herself as long as she lived.
Pulling herself together, she hurried out of the hospital. On her way back to the apartment, she dialed The Visa Agency.
"Please expedite my visa application. I don't care how much the rush fee is, just process it as fast as humanly possible," she urged, panic lacing her voice.
"We'll do our best, Mrs. Hayes, but right now the system is swamped with US visa applications. All the interview slots are booked solid. Unless it's a dire humanitarian emergency, we simply cannot expedite it," the agent explained apologetically.
"Please, just try everything you can," she pleaded firmly.
