At the mention of Janetta's name, whispers rippled through the gathered crowd.
Sebastian's expression twisted viciously. "Helena, are you really that malicious? You know her public standing, yet you deliberately drag her name through the mud in a place like this?"
His words only amplified her bone-deep exhaustion.
No matter what she did, Janetta was always the innocent victim, and Helena was always the villain.
What a joke.
Taking her silence as an admission of guilt, Sebastian stood his ground, every syllable dripping with threat. "Helena, you have no right to compare yourself to her. There is no comparison. It's the difference between night and day. This baby is just like our divorce—you hold zero power. If I tell you to give birth, you give birth. If I tell you to get an abortion, you get an abortion."
Helena realized it was completely impossible to communicate with this man.
She didn't want to waste another breath on him. She turned to leave.
"Do you honestly think you can just run wild in Riverton without consequences?" he warned in a dangerous undertone.
Helena kept her spine perfectly straight, answering with absolute conviction. "Sebastian, we are divorced."
"As long as I haven't signed those papers, you are still Mrs. Hayes. Now get your ass back home immediately," he commanded.
"I'm not going back." She met his gaze head-on, refusing to back down.
The woman who had never once dared to defy him was now actively threatening him.
"Sebastian, if you force me to go back, I will tell the whole world Janetta is the homewrecker who ruined our marriage." She enunciated every single word with crystal clarity.
His face darkened into a stormy rage. "Helena, how did you become so venomous? Janetta is kind and constantly considers your feelings, yet all you do is try to destroy her!"
As the last word left his mouth, he raised his hand, fully intending to slap her across the face.
Even then, she didn't flinch.
