He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 59

Despite the turmoil in her heart, Janetta kept her expression perfectly serene in front of Sebastian.

In fact, every word out of her mouth seemed engineered to defend Helena.

She knew exactly how to play the game—the more she acted like a saint, the more it would amplify his disgust for his wife.

"It hasn't been easy for Helena either. She's been married to you for seven years, and she truly loved you, deeply. But she never realized your heart was never hers to begin with," Janetta murmured softly. "Now that she knows the truth, it must be completely unbearable. It's totally understandable that she lashed out. Please, don't be too angry with her."

As she spoke, she watched him intently out of the corner of her eye, observing his every micro-expression with extreme caution.

"If she wants to leave, why not just let her go?" she prompted gently. "I actually think she's quite pitiful. I've always wanted to invite her out to dinner to clear the air."

"As long as I get to be with you, I just hope she doesn't do anything desperate, otherwise the guilt would eat me alive." It was a classic display of false sympathy, yet every single sentence was a calculated manipulation designed to push his buttons.

Sebastian, naturally, caught the underlying meaning.

But he offered no reaction.

Hearing her repeat the same saintly lines over and over was starting to grate on his nerves.

He quickly brushed off the annoyance, chalking it up to a natural aversion to women nagging.

"Since you two aren't officially divorced yet, you should treat her a little better. That way, when the papers are signed, she won't have any reason to badmouth you," she coaxed with sickeningly sweet hypocrisy.

"Do you truly want me to treat her better?" he finally countered, his tone cool and unreadable.

Suddenly, Janetta looked down, her lower lip trembling slightly in a flawless display of silent grievance.

She was an absolute masterclass in weaponized magnanimity and deceit.

And being the clever actress she was, she knew exactly when to back off.

She instantly pivoted. "Sebastian, when the doctor came to check on me, I asked him when I'd start feeling the baby kick. He said usually around seventeen or eighteen weeks. I really can't wait to feel the baby move. I think that's when it will finally hit me that I'm really going to be a mother."

"Yeah," Sebastian replied, his tone entirely detached.

She immediately picked up on his severe lack of focus.

Her grip on his hand tightened slightly. "Sebastian... am I really just a burden to you? I know I shouldn't bother you with every little thing, but being pregnant... I just feel so emotionally fragile."
