Janetta stubbornly held onto his hand, clearly reluctant to let him go.
"Janetta, be good," he instructed, his voice leaving no room for argument.
She obediently released her grip, not daring to push her luck.
Without another moment's delay, Sebastian walked out of the apartment and drove straight toward The Hayes Corporation.
Halfway there, a message chimed on his phone from Carter.
Carter: [Boss, the visa has been successfully intercepted. The agency will notify Mrs. Hayes shortly.]
Sebastian didn't bother replying.
Now that he had severed her only escape route out of the country, she would inevitably come crawling back to him for help.
He wanted to see just how she planned to slip out of Riverton right under his nose.
Until he decided to let her go, she belonged to the Hayes family in life, and she would belong to the Hayes family in death!
Wallowing in that dark, twisted sense of control seemed to slightly ease the suffocating rage she had provoked in him earlier.
Yet, his expression remained as thunderous as ever.
The executive office remained deathly quiet.
Back in her apartment, Helena had fallen into an exhausted, feverish sleep until the shrill ringing of her phone jolted her awake.
Glancing at the screen, she saw it was The Visa Agency. Assuming there had been a breakthrough, she practically leaped to answer it.
"Hello. Has my interview slot been scheduled?" she asked eagerly.
A heavy silence stretched over the line.
A sickening knot formed in her stomach, and her palms instantly grew slick with sweat.
Finally, the agent spoke. "Mrs. Hayes, we are incredibly sorry, but we are completely unable to process your application."
Helena was stunned. "Why?"
The agent refused to elaborate, only suggesting she try her luck elsewhere before abruptly hanging up.
Panicking, she immediately contacted several other visa consulting agencies.
They all started out incredibly enthusiastic, but the moment they pulled up her background information, their tones instantly flipped.
The answer was always the exact same: The application could not be submitted.
Too physically and emotionally drained for small talk, she quickly thanked him again and ended the call.
But one thing was absolutely certain: no matter how viciously Sebastian tried to break her, she was never going back.
Her hand drifted down to rest protectively over her stomach.
"Baby, Mommy promises to get you out of here safely," she whispered, fiercely comforting the tiny life growing inside her.
After today's terrifying ambush, she knew she had to switch hospitals for all future checkups to avoid another disastrous run-in with him.
She scrolled through her phone and found a crowded, run-of-the-mill public hospital—the exact kind of place a billionaire like Sebastian would never set foot in.
She quickly booked a new appointment online.
Once everything was settled, she forced herself up to make something to eat.
But for some inexplicable reason, a suffocating wave of dread continued to press heavily against her chest, making it hard to breathe.
She couldn't shake the terrifying feeling that something was about to go horribly wrong.
