She let out a silent sigh.
"What's wrong?" Julian's sharp intuition picked up on her mood instantly. "Lena, turn on your camera."
She froze.
He had already switched the call to a video chat on WhatsApp.
Staring at the prompt, she finally caved and accepted the request.
His strikingly handsome face filled the screen.
Glancing at his background, she instantly recognized the sleek interior of his Tokyo office.
He was working late, too.
"You're still at the office?" she asked instinctively.
"Tokyo is an hour ahead of Riverton. It's completely normal for me to still be working," he explained smoothly.
She nodded, realizing he was right.
It was only when he was back in Coralia that he left the office exactly on time.
He did it entirely to be with her.
And whenever Skye demanded his attention, he would blow off work completely just to entertain her.
When he was traveling for business, he reverted right back to being an absolute workaholic.
Working late was his default setting.
She fell silent again.
Sensing her hesitation, he gently prodded, "Why the heavy sigh earlier? Did something go wrong with the negotiations?"
He paused, setting his pen down on the desk, and looked at her through the screen with a steady, calming gaze.
His lips parted slightly, but he held back his words, as if calculating his next move.
She had known him for years, and they had been a team for just as long.
She could read his micro-expressions like a book.
"No, the negotiations went flawlessly. Everything is perfectly on track. I'm signing the contract with The Hayes Corporation tomorrow," she finally answered quietly.
