Sebastian stepped out of the car as Janetta rushed over to him.
Her voice was shrill with accusation. "Sebastian, I saw everything! You two..."
But she immediately backpedaled, desperate to give him an out. "She threw herself at you, didn't she? I know she only married Julian Campbell for his money. She's a ruthless social climber. Julian doesn't even love her, which is why he doesn't care what she does!"
The words tumbled out of her mouth as she stared at him with wild, pleading eyes.
Yet Sebastian looked at her with icy detachment. "What are you doing here?"
He didn't even bother addressing her frantic accusations.
His chilling indifference struck a nerve, making her realize just how serious this was.
Her expression twisted. "Sebastian, are you actually falling for her?"
He frowned, ignoring her question completely.
His silence sent a spike of pure terror through her chest.
It felt like a blatant confirmation.
He was falling for this new woman.
Was it just because she shared the same name and had similar eyes?
The realization made Janetta feel suffocated with panic.
"Sebastian..." she whispered, her voice trembling as she reached for him.
He looked down at her with dead eyes. "Janetta, aren't you Mrs. Hayes? Shouldn't you remember your place and act with decorum?"
The reprimand felt like a physical blow.
It was as if their roles had been entirely reversed.
Back when she was the mistress, he used to say those exact words to Helena.
He had demanded that Helena be obedient, reminding her of what a wife should and shouldn't do.
Now that she had schemed her way into the title, those words were being used against her.
Everything had changed.
Janetta stared at him, utterly paralyzed, unable to formulate a single sentence.
