On the way to the precinct, Sebastian kept trying to reach Helena.
The line remained stubbornly dead.
His brows knitted tightly together.
"Mr. Hayes, the hospital just confirmed that Skye Campbell was the one injured," Carter reported after hanging up his phone.
Helena was completely fine; the person rushed to the emergency room was Skye.
"My guess is that the recent gossip pushed Mrs. Hayes over the edge. She likely went to confront Ms. Wallace and accidentally injured the girl. Given Ms. Wallace's fierce protectiveness over Skye and her formidable status, things escalated..." Carter analyzed the situation with professional detachment.
Sebastian listened in silence.
Every word Carter said made perfect logical sense.
Yet, for some inexplicable reason, Sebastian felt there was a much darker undercurrent beneath the surface.
Helena's devotion to Skye bordered on obsessive.
She didn't act like an aunt caring for a relative's child; she acted like a fiercely protective mother.
But Sebastian knew for a fact that Helena and Julian had no children together.
And Skye seemed entirely comfortable with Helena and Julian's current dynamic.
This only deepened his suspicion that Helena and Julian's marriage was nothing but an elaborate facade.
Still, piecing the puzzle together left him feeling utterly bewildered.
Amidst his swirling thoughts, his phone vibrated again.
He answered it without checking the caller ID. "Helena."
A brief silence followed. "It's me."
Beau Sterling's calm voice echoed through the speaker.
Sebastian pinched the bridge of his nose, fighting off a brewing headache. "My apologies."
"Did Helena really press charges against Janetta?" Beau asked directly.
Beau was currently in Coralia.
But distance didn't stop him from catching the news; the internet's reach was instantaneous.
"Yes," Sebastian replied coolly.
