"What?" Helena looked at him, completely caught off guard.
"Skye," Julian said succinctly.
Helena froze.
"As long as you stay tangled in this mess, do you really think a man as sharp as Sebastian won't eventually get suspicious? If your identity is exposed, won't he start piecing things together? When he discovers the truth, are you going to put Skye right in the middle of a vicious custody battle? How is she supposed to handle that?"
His sharp questions drained the color from her face.
No matter what she did, she would never drag Skye into the crossfire.
"He wouldn't. She's the young Miss of the Campbell Family. She'll be safe," she muttered, almost to herself.
"Yes, The Campbell Family won't let anything happen to her. But are you absolutely certain Sebastian won't intervene once he knows the truth?" Julian asked bluntly.
The interrogation left her increasingly speechless.
She couldn't find an answer to a single one of his questions.
He stared down at her.
Helena tentatively lifted her gaze to meet his.
"Helena." He used her full first name.
She knew that whenever he called her that, he was emotional and had something serious to say.
It wasn't the affectionate 'Lena' anymore.
"I'm listening," she replied.
"Aside from what you've told me—the reasons you can't let go. You want to ruin Sebastian, you want to personally send Janetta to prison," Julian's voice remained even. "I understand all of that. But if we're being honest, the real reason is that you've never truly gotten over Sebastian, isn't it?"
By the end, his tone had taken on an aggressive edge.
She was backed into a corner by his accusations, leaving her no room to retreat.
She let out a silent sigh.
Sebastian was a hurdle she could never seem to clear in her heart.
And wasn't it the exact same for Julian?
In the end, their relationship was always haunted by the same man.
