Sebastian didn't offer any further explanation.
Everything felt shrouded in an impenetrable, confusing fog.
Beau noticed his silence. To say Beau wasn't anxious would be a lie.
But having known Sebastian for years, he understood that the man had his own plans. Outsiders couldn't simply interfere.
Ultimately, Beau could only sigh.
"Seb, you've never really let Helena go, have you?" Beau asked.
"Or did you actually fall in love with her a long time ago?" His question was piercing.
Sebastian was blunt. "I owe her."
"Is that really it?" Beau pressed. "Like you said, if Helena really is her, and you owe her, you could just give her money. You could compensate her with anything—instead of gambling the entire Hayes estate on this."
Sebastian didn't reply.
"I know you have a backup plan, but doing this will completely upend Riverton. Is it worth it?" Beau couldn't hide his surprise.
"Let's leave it at that for now." Sebastian clearly had no intention of continuing the conversation.
Beau wasn't dense enough to miss the dismissal.
So, in the end, he didn't push it.
Right at that moment, the faint sound of crying drifted in from outside the door. Sebastian frowned.
The penthouse layout featured two private elevators for a single unit. Under normal circumstances, no one should have been able to get up here.
Each floor required a specific access card, ensuring absolute privacy.
"I'll call you later," Sebastian said quickly.
Beau simply agreed.
Sebastian ended the call.
His expression darkened as he strode toward the front door.
Looking through the peephole, he froze in surprise at the sight outside.
Without a second thought, he threw the door open.
Standing in the hallway was little Skye.
"Skye? What are you doing here?" Sebastian asked, crouching down to her eye level.
Skye stared at him, equally stunned. "Sebastian? Why is it you?"
But then again, her sense of direction had always been terrible.
Plus, she was adorable and dressed head-to-toe in high-end designer clothes.
The security guards here were trained to recognize luxury brands.
They hadn't doubted a single word she said.
Skye had simply given the unit number and Helena's name.
And waltzed right into a random elevator.
The guards hadn't even double-checked; they had just swiped their card to send her up.
Which was how she ended up perfectly stumbling into Sebastian's penthouse.
"Why are you here at this hour? Where are your parents?" Sebastian asked patiently.
Skye stuck her tongue out playfully. "My parents had some stuff to do, so they dropped me off to find Julian and Lena."
Claire had personally escorted her to the building.
Naturally, Claire never imagined that Skye wouldn't even look and would just step into the wrong elevator.
"I need to hurry back and find Lena, or my mommy and daddy are going to worry to death. Lena is totally going to scold me later," Skye said, looking a little embarrassed.
