But to Janetta, none of that mattered.
She knew that as long as the child belonged to Sebastian, everything would be fine.
Just as she had guessed, The Hayes Estate would never bother doing a maternity DNA test on her and the child.
And she had been right.
After finishing the job, the doctor had immediately fled the country.
Terrified of any loose ends, Janetta tracked him down, orchestrated an accident, and silenced him for good.
She refused to let Sebastian discover that she wasn't the boy's biological mother.
She would eliminate any potential risks.
She just hadn't expected another accident to occur.
But dead men told no tales.
Janetta figured there wouldn't be any major issues.
Yet, Sebastian's current icy demeanor made her uncertain.
Amidst her frantic probing, Sebastian sharply honed in on the flaw in her story.
"How did you know the doctor had an accident?" he asked, his expression completely unreadable. "What exactly happened to him?"
"I... I just heard about it. Since he was the one who performed my surgery, it's natural that I'd keep an ear out for any news about him," Janetta explained anxiously, trying to cover her tracks.
But she couldn't tell if he bought the lie.
The mere fact that he was bringing it up now sent a wave of sheer panic through her.
Sebastian's attitude toward her excuses was completely impossible to read.
He lowered his eyes, his hand tightening into a fist inside his pocket.
He recalled how Janetta had previously slipped up, mentioning that Helena had been hit by a car during her accident.
That was during Helena's prison transfer years ago.
He had placed the incident under an absolute media blackout.
Even the people at the scene didn't have the full story.
So how could Janetta know the specifics?
Under these suspicions, Sebastian had ordered Carter Miles to investigate the matter.
Knowing this, Sebastian didn't type anything else.
Carter replied: [Understood!]
Meanwhile, Janetta's pitiful excuses were still echoing through the phone.
Sebastian's patience wore dangerously thin, and he abruptly cut her off. "Is there anything else? I have a meeting."
It was a blatant dismissal.
There was no way Janetta could miss it.
Her voice grew frantic. "Sebastian, I really plan on retiring from the industry after filming Destiny's Choice. I want to come back and be a good wife and a good mother. Even if Kyle isn't biologically mine, he's called me Mommy for years. I could never just abandon him."
It was as if she were pledging her unwavering loyalty to him.
Sebastian asked coolly, "Is that really what you think?"
"Yes," she answered with absolute certainty.
Sebastian said nothing.
Terrified that he was about to hang up, Janetta quickly blurted out, "Sebastian, we're heading to Coralia to shoot soon too. Since you're there for your meetings, how about I come stay with you?"
