And everyone in the Campbell family was deeply protective and anxious when it came to Skye.
Hearing her explanation, Julian hummed quietly.
The line fell silent again.
"Sebastian is in Coralia?" Julian finally asked, shattering the quiet.
Helena knew that even if the doctors hadn't informed him, the building management surely would have.
After all, the commotion next door yesterday was hard to miss.
And this building was owned by the Campbell family.
So she saw no point in hiding it. "Yes. He's staying right next door. He's the owner of the vacant penthouse."
Julian was genuinely surprised by that revelation.
But before he could ask anything else, Helena offered the final piece of the puzzle.
"Professor Xander is a personal connection of Sebastian's," she said plainly.
Julian's expression darkened as the weight of her words settled in. He instantly understood her dilemma.
"Did Sebastian tell you that himself?" he asked sharply.
Helena gave a soft hum of agreement.
There was no need for further explanation.
Both of them knew that Xander's assistant had only contacted Claire because Sebastian had given the order.
It was a calculated move to corner Helena.
He was forcing her hand.
Helena knew it.
And Julian definitely knew it.
He fell silent again, the tension on the line thickening.
After a long pause, he finally asked, "So, have you changed your mind?"
Helena knew exactly what he was asking.
She lowered her gaze, her entire body rigid with agonizing stress.
He knew better than anyone that Skye was Helena's absolute breaking point.
He couldn't force her into a corner using the little girl as leverage.
If he pushed too hard, she would shatter completely.
That would drag her right back into the paralyzing terror she had suffered in the past—and Julian refused to let that happen.
The memory of her lifeless, hollowed-out state still haunted him.
If it weren't for that, he would have gladly hidden Skye's true identity for the rest of their lives.
But some things seemed entirely fated by destiny.
Despite running in circles, they had all ended up right back where they started, hopelessly trapped.
"I'll be back later," Julian said, dropping the subject.
"Okay," Helena agreed.
Without pushing her any further, he ended the call.
Left alone with her suffocating thoughts, Helena took a deep breath, forcing herself back to the kitchen to cook so she wouldn't drag her despair in front of Skye.
