A flash of irritation crosses Sebastian's face.
But on the surface, he forced himself to explain. "Helena, even if Grandpa were still here, he wouldn't want the Hayes family bloodline to end."
The sheer audacity of the excuse left her speechless.
Her lips parted, trying to form a response, but he turned and coldly walked away.
The words died on her tongue.
The crushing disappointment was rapidly morphing into sheer despair.
"Enough. Go apologize to her. Then I'll have the driver take you home." He delivered the command like an absolute dictator.
The frigid indifference made her lower her head and let out a harsh, self-mocking laugh.
Any remaining urge to tell him she was pregnant was completely obliterated.
Seven years of marriage had culminated in this final, fatal blow.
She had been living in a fairytale of her own creation.
Ripping away the illusion revealed nothing but a brutal, ugly reality.
She was so tired.
"Sebastian, I didn't do anything wrong. I will not apologize," she stated quietly but firmly.
He frowned, his lips twitching. "Go apologize!"
"I won't!" She glared back at him, utterly refusing to yield.
She was gambling. Gambling that after seven years together, he couldn't possibly be entirely heartless.
Finally, he relented. "Suit yourself."
He ignored her and turned to walk back into the hospital room.
Standing alone in the empty, echoing corridor, the air itself felt heavy with sorrow.
Helena looked down, heavy tears finally spilling over her lashes.
They crashed onto the floor, instantly absorbing into the tiles.
She couldn't take another second of this place.
She practically sprinted toward the exit.
A moment later, he followed her out. A tiny spark of hope flared in her eyes, only to be extinguished the very next second.
The submissive, gentle woman who treated him like a god—that was the Helena he knew and preferred.
She was supposed to cry, apologize, and beg for forgiveness.
But this time, he was genuinely caught off guard.
She had zero reaction. She just stared at him blankly.
Annoyed by her dead eyes, he barked, "Helena, did you hear me?"
His voice dropped to a menacing growl.
She didn't respond.
The tiny spark of hope she felt when he chased after her was now thoroughly frozen over.
"I'll have the driver take you back." He was completely out of patience.
She stayed quiet, her gaze locked dead on him.
"Do you have anything else to say?" he asked, heavily irritated.
"Sebastian, the way your mind works is so filthy it makes me sick." She delivered the harshest words she had ever said to him.
