He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 10

With that, Helena turned on her heel and walked away. A fierce cramp ripped through her abdomen.

The pain was so intense she passed out on the sidewalk. Some bypassers called an ambulance, and she was rushed right back into the ER.

The doctor took one look at her condition and started scolding her. "How could you wait until it got this bad to come in? It's incredibly dangerous. Do you even want to keep this baby?"

"Yes," she gasped, looking at the doctor in sheer panic.

The doctor shook his head and asked, "Where's your husband?"

"He..." She lied. "We're divorced."

The doctor had likely seen it all before. He didn't pry. He had her sign some paperwork, assigned her a bed, and hooked her up to an IV.

It wasn't until 9:00 PM that the IV finished.

Every other expectant mother in the ward was surrounded by anxious family members. She was completely alone.

She quietly got out of bed and walked out into the corridor.

Suddenly, she spotted Janetta.

Helena instinctively glanced around, but he wasn't with her.

"Helena, are you looking for Seb? He went to grab some clothes for me. I told him to go home and get some sleep, but he refused. He's just so stubborn," Janetta boasted with a smug smile.

Listening to her made Helena's stomach turn.

Then, Janetta's eyes drifted down to her wrist. "Oh, so that's where the bracelet ended up?"

Helena glanced down at it. It was the only gift he had ever given her, even if it had just been handed over casually.

She had worn it every single day, treasuring it deeply.

"What do you mean by that?" she asked coolly.

"Because he bought it for me originally, but I didn't like it. I guess he just pawned off my hand-me-down on you," Janetta giggled.

With a dismissive nod, the actress strutted back into the main hospital wing.

Helena stood frozen in place.

All this time, she thought it was a special gift bought just for her. Turns out, it was just trash Janetta threw away.

"Oh, by the way," Janetta suddenly spun back around.

If they were going to sever ties, she was going to sever them cleanly.

It took a long time for her to regain her senses. Lance's words echoed in her mind over and over again.

She had been such an idiot. She gave up everything for a man who didn't care.

She was supposed to be shining brightly, making a name for herself in an industry she loved.

Instead, she was living like a miserable, pathetic ghost.

Taking a deep breath, she pulled out her phone and texted Lance.

Helena: [Lance, I'll be back in New York in three months. I'm ready to rejoin the team.]

The reply came almost instantly.

Lance: [That's fantastic!]

She didn't reply again. She was exhausted.

She quietly turned around, got into a cab, and left the hospital.
