He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 978

"So after the holidays..." Sophia suddenly looked at Helena.

Helena fell quiet for a moment. "We'll probably go our separate ways."

Truthfully, she felt she was growing tired of the charade.

He was too submissive; there were no emotional highs or lows.

Their life was perfectly tranquil, but it wasn't what Helena truly wanted.

She was starting to realize that his accommodating behavior couldn't mend what was broken—at best, it offered a fleeting peace of mind.

Sophia nodded at Helena's response and didn't press the issue further.

"I almost forgot, I came to tell you about Xavier resigning," Sophia said, smacking her forehead.

Helena blinked in surprise. "Why?"

Xavier commanded immense respect at Northgate University. Despite his youth, he was a leading figure in various academic research fields.

His future was incredibly bright.

Quitting at a time like this seemed entirely illogical.

But Helena quickly connected it to Jocelyn's situation.

She didn't dwell on it too much, though.

The media had long since moved on from the scandal.

With no public interest, The Police naturally didn't need to issue any statements.

Besides, Jocelyn's sentencing had already been finalized.

"I have no idea. The board tried to make him stay, but it didn't work. It's a real shame," Sophia said, throwing her hands up. "Given your past relationship, I honestly thought the dean might ask you to try and talk him out of it."

Helena didn't reply.

But the news definitely took her by surprise.

Outwardly, however, she remained completely composed.

Sophia and Helena chatted for a while longer.

By early evening, Sophia took her leave.

Sebastian only emerged from the study after Sophia had gone.

Helena stared at him.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Sebastian asked casually. "I'm going to start dinner. I remember you mentioning you wanted basil chicken tonight."

"Did you have something to do with Xavier's resignation?" Helena asked point-blank.

Sebastian was equally direct. "His resignation has absolutely nothing to do with us."
