Skye quickly dragged Sebastian over to an empty seat and pulled him down next to her.
He ended up seated right between Skye and Helena.
On Helena's other side sat Julian.
Sebastian didn't utter a word of complaint, but the gazes of the two men clashed violently across the table.
The tension flared for a split second before both simultaneously looked away.
Helena was the only one who remained completely silent.
But everyone was used to her quiet nature by now.
As dinner progressed, it quickly became glaringly obvious to everyone at the table—Alistair was intentionally making life miserable for Sebastian.
He took every possible opportunity to pick a fight.
He fired off impossibly difficult questions.
He pressured Sebastian into drinking excessively.
He went out of his way to humiliate him.
Most people at the table were bracing for the moment Sebastian would finally snap.
But against all odds, Sebastian just sat there, taking every insult and jab with a flawless, accommodating smile.
His absolute refusal to fight back actually left Alistair completely stumped, unsure of how to escalate things further.
It was like trying to have a screaming match with a brick wall.
Eventually, the one-sided argument just fizzled out into nothing.
Helena, however, was completely unfazed.
After all, this was exactly how Sebastian had been acting for weeks—bulletproof, overly accommodating, and stripped of his usual explosive temper.
Even Lance couldn't handle the suspense and fired off a text to Helena.
Lance: [Sebastian hasn't lost his temper yet? Did he take the wrong meds or something?]
Helena: [He's been like this lately.]
Lance: [...]
Well, that explained it.
Helena and Sebastian had far more volatile issues between them anyway.
Helena had been torturing Sebastian mercilessly, showing zero restraint.
And Sebastian hadn't fought back once.
Alistair's petty dinner table jabs were absolutely nothing in comparison.
Child's play.
Helena stayed silent, partly on purpose, just to watch him squirm.
Even after making the rounds with endless toasts, Sebastian finally turned back to Helena. "Is something wrong?"
Helena scowled, visibly repulsed. "You reek of alcohol."
"I'll go shower in a bit," Sebastian replied effortlessly.
