He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 995

Helena stood rooted to the spot, seemingly waiting for Sebastian to approach.

Sebastian closed the distance effortlessly, his arm wrapping naturally around her waist.

"I just put Skye to bed. Why are you standing out here in the cold?" Sebastian asked, his voice a low murmur.

"I was just talking to my mother," Helena replied smoothly.

Sebastian hummed softly, asking casually, "What were you two talking about?"

It was meant to be a harmless question.

Sebastian wasn't actually trying to interrogate her.

It was perfectly normal for a mother and daughter to catch up.

"My mother asked me about the nature of our relationship," Helena said, her gaze locking onto his.

Sebastian froze for a split second before leaning in to press a kiss to her temple. "And what did you tell her?"

"Does my answer really matter to you?" Helena challenged.

"Yes," Sebastian murmured.

"Sebastian, you know perfectly well that a future for us is impossible. You know exactly what we're both getting out of this current arrangement, don't you?" Helena stated with brutal honesty.

Her stance hadn't shifted an inch since the beginning.

Sebastian didn't immediately argue.

Despite Helena's cold words, Sebastian could feel the subtle shifts in her demeanor.

He knew she wasn't entirely immune to him.

She was just terrified to let her guard down.

"Is that truly how you feel?" Sebastian asked, his voice dangerously soft.

Helena met his stare head-on. "Yes."

It was an absolute, unwavering answer.

And Sebastian actually just nodded. "I see."

Helena braced herself, fully expecting him to lose his temper, but his terrifyingly calm acceptance threw her completely off balance.

Now she was the one who felt unsettled.

"Let's go back to the room. We can revisit this conversation after the holidays," Sebastian said smoothly, ending the discussion.

Helena swallowed her remaining words.

The two walked back to her bedroom.

The atmosphere between them hung in a strange, lukewarm purgatory.

Helena remained icy, while Sebastian was relentlessly attentive.
