"Delivery," Jarrod replied smoothly.

"Someone spilled water on my arm during the flight. The dampness is unbearable."

He furrowed his brow, leaning into the guilt trip. "Don't you want my arm to heal faster so we can finalize the divorce papers? Then don't let it get infected and drag this out any longer."

Stella found herself completely speechless.

Even knowing it was likely a pathetic excuse, she couldn't just leave him to rot. She pulled out her phone. "What do you need? I'll place the order now."

Jarrod dragged his chair right next to hers, leaning in so closely they were practically sharing the screen.

He was invading her personal space, his cheek inches from hers. Stella shot him a sidelong glance, but Jarrod acted completely oblivious, keeping his eyes glued to the screen while he scrolled awkwardly with his left hand.

She shifted away and shoved the phone toward him. "Look for yourself."

He didn't take it. "My left hand is clumsy. You hold it."

She clamped her mouth shut.

Thankfully, he quickly selected the necessary supplies.

Stella authorized the payment. Seeing it was nearing eleven, she asked, "Are there any more flights back to Royal Oaks tonight?"

"I've been working all day, and the trip here took four hours," Jarrod stated. "It's late. You're seriously kicking me out?"

Pushed into a corner, Stella retorted, "It's not like I asked you to come."

Despite the sharp comeback, Jarrod didn't get angry. If anything, her defiance made her seem more vibrantly alive to him.

"True. I came on my own accord," he conceded, "but I'm exhausted, and I'm not going back tonight."

Stella blinked at his mild response but didn't argue. "Then get the concierge to book you a room. Once we change your dressing, you should get some rest."
