The front doors were wide open. In the living room, George, Sylvia, and Seraphina were gathered on the sofas. Sylvia was elegantly peeling fruit while Seraphina leaned affectionately against George, laughing. They looked like the picture-perfect, happy family.

When Stella walked in, the laughter died instantly. All three of them froze.

Still bitter about the expo slots, Seraphina let out a childish huff, rolled her eyes, and looked away. George patted his youngest daughter's shoulder in a soothing gesture.

Sylvia immediately plastered on a flawless, welcoming smile and stood up. "Stella, you're back! Come sit down. Have you eaten? Did the expo go well? I bet you brought back some amazing results!"

Ignoring the fake pleasantries, Stella looked straight at George and cut to the chase. "Dad, I'm here about the new machinery. Mr. Stafford ran the numbers, and a complete upgrade will cost around three million dollars. I need you to approve the funds immediately."

George frowned, but before he could formulate an excuse, Sylvia chimed in with her sickeningly sweet voice. "Stella, sweetheart, you just secured those new orders. It's going to take a little time for the cash flow to catch up. Why the sudden rush to replace everything? Can't you just make do with what you have for now?"
