Chapter 100
Finn studied my materials, his face unreadable. Finally, he looked up, his eyes meeting mine directly.
“You realize this is essentially gambling?” he asked. “Putting all our resources into a single project rather than spreading the risk?”
I held his gaze, my heart pounding but my voice steady. “We are gambling. But I’m betting we’ll win.”
For a moment, I thought he might dismiss the idea entirely. Then, unexpectedly, the corner of his mouth twitched upward. “You’ve done your homework,” he admitted. “Let’s try it your way.”
The next morning, I arrived at Sterling Entertainment headquarters before Finn. I’d chosen my outfit carefully–a blue tailored suit that projected professionalism without trying too hard. My hair was pulled back in a sleek ponytail, and I wore minimal makeup.
Standing in the building’s impressive lobby, I took a deep breath. “You can do this,” I whispered to myself. The marble floors gleamed beneath my sensible heels as I approached the reception desk.
“Good morning,” I said to the receptionist, my voice more confident than I felt. “I’m here for my appointment with Finn Sterling.”
The woman glanced up, her expression neutral. “Your name?”
“Hannah Lancaster.”
She typed something into her computer. “I see. Please have a seat in the waiting area. Mr. Sterling hasn’t arrived yet. I’ll notify him when
he gets here.”
I nodded and thanked her, turning toward the waiting area with a small smile. Of course Finn wasn’t here yet–that was precisely my plan. I’d deliberately arrived early to get a feel for the company environment and observe the employees in their natural habitat, without Finn’s intimidating presence affecting their behavior. The reception area offered the perfect vantage point to watch the office dynamics unfold, giving me valuable insights before we officially began our work.
I sat in the plush chair, using the opportunity to observe my surroundings. The office space was undeniably luxurious–high ceilings, expensive art, gleaming surfaces–but something felt off. The employees moved with tense precision, their smiles not quite reaching their eyes. Despite the numerous awards displayed on the walls, most were dated five years ago or earlier.
“Did you hear Sterling is coming in today?” I overheard a young man whisper to his colleague.
“The prodigal son returns,” his companion replied with a nervous laugh. “Wonder if he’ll actually stay this time.”
Another voice joined in, a woman’s. “I heard he grew up in some fighting pit. Can you imagine?”
“Sophia should be running this place,” a sharp female voice cut in. I turned slightly to see a stylish woman with cropped black hair and red–framed glasses. “Not some Sterling heir who grew up in a cage.”

Chapter 100
“Careful, Coco,” one of the men warned. “Those walls have ears.”

I watched them for a moment longer, mentally cataloging their attitudes and alliances. Then I reached into my bag and pulled out the ID
badge Victoria had arranged for me. I slipped the lanyard around my neck, straightened my jacket, and stood up.
Walking toward the group of employees, I cleared my throat. “Good morning,” I said, my voice carrying across the space. “I’m Hannah
Lancaster, Mr. Finn Sterling’s personal secretary.”
The sudden silence was satisfying.
“Mr. Sterling will be arriving in approximately one hour,” I continued, my confidence growing with each word. “I’d like the main conference room prepared, and I’ll need the quarterly reports for all departments on his desk before he arrives.”
Coco–the woman who had spoken dismissively of Finn–narrowed her eyes. “That won’t be happening,” she said flatly. “No one informed us of any visit or any new secretary. Who are you really?”
