Chapter 112
After she hung up the phone, Nina went back to the Swanson residence. Everyone had already shown up an hour earlier. except for Nina’s aunt. Now, everyone was waiting for Nina. No one looked glad to see her.
As soon as Linda saw Nina walk in, she sneered, “Well, look who finally back. So, what’s so important that you had to drag us all here so early?” Linda was still fuming over what happened with Luna last time.
Luna was still stuck cleaning, and no matter how many times Linda tried to plead her case, Sarah and James wouldn’t budge. They insisted Luna had to clean for a whole month
Linda was furious, but she didn’t dare snap at Sarah or James, so the fixed her glare on Nina instead Ever since Nina came back, Sarah had run interference, and with Ryan in her corner, na could walk over the Swansons whenever she pleased.
Lately, Linda had been purposely avoiding Joanna, so she wouldn’t have to see Nina. She was worried she’d blow up at her if they crossed paths. But James still called everyone together this morning because Nina had something to say.
Linda had planned to hit the spa with her friends, but she got dragged here instead. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Nina kept everyone waiting for an hour. She was already burning with anger, and the moment she saw Nina, she couldn’t help herself.
Nina hadn’t slept all night; her mind felt foggy, and her face was pale. She shot Linda a cold look “Aunt Linda, do you have a problem with me?”
Linda wanted to say something, but when she caught Nina’s icy gaze, she hesitated, then muttered, ‘Of course not”
Nina just looked away, ignoring her, and turned to the others. “Sorry, had some stuff to deal with.”
Everyone responded with cold, mocking laughter. They thought Nina is just nobody the Swansons dragged back in. What kind of business could she possibly have to handle? Probably, Nina is flaunting her looks to hook Ryan.
‘Nina grew up around bar girls in a nightclub. She acts innocent, says she doesn’t like Ryan, but she’s got him eating out of her hand behind the scenes.
‘Anytime there was even a hint of trouble, Ryan would show up in a flash to back her up. Most people could only dream of tricking others like that.
Everyone was thinking it, but nobody dared say it out loud in front of Nina. With Sarah here, and especially with Ryan around, nobody wanted to pick a fight.
Ryan was head-over-heels, treating Nina like she was his whole world. If anyone tried to mess with her, he’d be the first to step in.
Nina swept her gaze over the crowd, not bothering with whatever they were thinking. She said coolly, “I called you all here for one thing. How are you planning to arrange Sarah’s seventieth birthday party?”
Everyone’s heads snapped up, eyes full of confusion as they stared at Nina. Even Sarah looked a little taken aback.
Sarah had thought Nina had called everyone over for something important, but it turned out to be about her own seventieth birthday. Birthdays had never mattered much to Sarah, yet the fact that Nina remembered left a slow, bright warmth spreading through her chest.
“Bet not a single one of my sons or grandkids even remembers my birthday, Sarah thought to herself.
“Is Mom’s seventieth birthday coming up?” Michael looked over at Robert, confused. “When is it?”
