Chapter 139
Chapter 139
Not wanting to hear Hazel get all sentimental, Nina sped up and went straight upstairs.
Hazel stared down at the card in her hand, her eyes welling up with tears.
She gripped the card tight, whispering like she was making a promise to herself, “I swear, I’ll earn way more than this, over and over. Nina, you can count on me. I’ll prove you made the right choice. I can do this, I really can.”
Joanna had just stepped outside and spotted Hazel standing in the yard, totally spaced out. She asked, “Hazel, why aren’t you going inside? What are you doing out here?”
Hazel snittled, forcing back the tears in her eyes..
Joanna could tell right away that Hazel had been crying. She asked, worried, “Did they bully you again?”
Hazel shook her head and said, “No, ever since Nina stood up for me last time, nobody’s messed with me anymore.”
Joanna asked. “Then why are you crying?” Honestly, she breathed a sigh of relief. She could handle a little trouble herself, but she hated the idea of Hazel getting hurt.
Last time, when word got out that Lily had bullied Hazel, Joanna felt terrible and blamed herself for a long time.
Joanna thought, ‘It’s all because I didn’t look out for Hazel enough that Lily and the others got the chance to pick on her
Hazel took a deep breath and filled Joanna in on everything that went down today
Joanna’s eyes lit up with excitement. She asked, “Really? Morgan actually took you in as his disciple?”
Hazel replied, “Yeah. If it weren’t for Nina, I probably never would’ve even met Morgan. She’s honestly such a good person, really, really amazing.”
Joanna said, “Just don’t forget who’s had your back, and make sure you show Nina how grateful you are. Hazel, this kind of chance doesn’t come around often. Hold on tight and don’t let Nina down.”
Hazel nodded and said, “I will.”
Joanna glanced upstairs and said, “Let me go thank Nina in person.”
Hazel said, “Mom, don’t. Nina hates all that polite talk. If you get too mushy, she’ll just get fed up.”
Joanna remembered how Nina was and let it go.
About two weeks later, Sarah’s 70th birthday party was finally here.
The whole Swanson clan gathered at the main house first thing in the morning to pay their respects and celebrate Sarah’s big day.
Ever since Nina started looking after her, Sarah’s health, had gotten way better than before.
She was in an awesome mood today.
And it wasn’t because her whole family had come to celebrate her birthday; it was all because Nina was the one who set up the whole thing.
Whenever Nina took care of things, Sarah was always happy.
Vivian watched Sarah beaming with joy and sneered, “Sarah has got nine lives.”

Chapter 139
She thought, ‘She is still not dead after everything she’s been through.
Those miracle doctors Ryan brought in were seriously something else. They actually snatched Sarah right back from the jaws of death.’
While Nina treated Sarah, the rest of the Swanson family was kept downstairs under strict supervision, so no one actually saw her working her magic.
Everyone just gave all the credit to those miracle doctors.
“Mom, keep your voice down. If Grandma hears you, she’ll let you have it again for sure!” Lily whispered, giving Vivian a warning look.
Vivian was still resentful, but she didn’t dare say another word.
With so many people around, if anyone overheard and it got back to Sarah, she’d be in for another scolding.
Lily whispered to Vivian, “Ryan’s already left Riverdale. Without his help, there’s no way Nina can pull off this birthday party. Even if she somehow manages it, it won’t turn out that great.
“If she messes up, Aunt Linda and Aunt Judy will definitely give her a hard time. She’s in the spotlight right now. Let’s not stir up any trouble for the time being.”
Vivian frowned and said, “So what if Ryan’s left Riverdale? Elaine’s still here. Seriously, how does that brat get so lucky? She is always rubbing shoulders with all these big shots.”
“Elaine left Riverdale ten days ago,” Lily replied.
Vivian gave Lily a puzzled look. She asked, “How do you know that?”
Lily’s eyes flashed with mischief as she replied, “I’ve got my own sources. Just wait, Mom. Nina’s totally gonna embarrass herself this time.”
She paused, then added, “I secretly set up a backup birthday party. If Nina screws hers up, we’ll move the party over in a flash. Everyone will see the difference.”
Vivian’s mood instantly lifted. She said, “You really thought of everything.”
