Chapter 148
Chapter 148
As soon as Nina and Ryan walked into the kitchen, the line of chefs standing at attention greeted them respectfully, “Ms. Swanson, Mr. Foster.”
Nina nodded and said, “Ten minutes until service.”
With that, she walked straight to the counter, put on her chef’s uniform, and got to work.
Ryan walked over to the other side of the counter and looked at her. He asked, “Same rules as always?”
Nina grinned, arching an eyebrow. She teased, “What, you think you can beat me?”
For some reason, Ryan was always itching to win against her.

He even picked up cooking from scratch just to beat her, and with nothing but his own talent, climbed his way up to become
a state party head chef, ending up as co-head chef with her at those prestigious events.
Every time there was a state party, Ryan would always try to outdo Nina.
But somehow, the foreign leaders always seemed to prefer her cooking.
Ryan would get so worked up about it that he’d challenge her to a cook-off every chance he got.
Eventually, Nina stepped down from her role as head chef for the state parties and never returned to the kitchen.
Because she was simply fed up.
But Ryan didn’t quit.
Not only did he stick around, but he also started coming up with new recipes every day just to cook for Nina.
As he put it, he was on a mission to conquer her taste buds and get her to admit, out loud, that his cooking was better than hers.
Nina thought he was being childish.
But she had to admit, Ryan had really gotten her used to his cooking.
“It’s not every day you actually get behind the stove yourself, so of course I have to challenge you. Nina, I have a feeling I’ll win this time,” Ryan said with a faint smile.
“We’ll see about that,” Nina replied.
Without another word, Nina got straight to work.

Meanwhile, in the party hall, the piano piece had just ended. Lily and Vivian were about to get up and chase after Barry, but before hey could, the next performance started.
Lily clutched the edge of the table, looking like she was about to lose it. “The National Opera Troupe?” she muttered, disbelief written all over her face..
And it wasn’t just Lily; everyone else looked just as shell-shocked.
If getting Barry was already crazy hard, then getting the National Opera Troupe was even crazier.

Nobody could ever pull that off.
And now, they were actually up there performing, all for Sarah’s birthday.
The guests thought, ‘Isn’t the Swanson family supposed to be on the decline these past few years?
‘How do they end up with such serious backing?’
Vivian frowned and muttered, “How did Nina manage to get all these people here? They’re supposed to be impossible to book. How did she pull it off?”
Lily gritted her teeth, almost shouting, “What else could it be?.She’s obviously got some big shot backing her up.”
Her eyes were practically overflowing with jealousy.
Lily thought, ‘We look so much alike; we can practically be sisters.
‘So why is it that I can’t land myself a powerful guy to back me up?
‘In terms of talent or skill, I am every bit as good as Nina.
‘So why? What am I missing?’
Before Lily could even wrap her head around it, the opera finished, and the third act hit the stage.
When Lily saw who walked up to the stage, her eyes nearly popped out of her head, and she was shaking so hard her teeth were chattering.
Lily practically shrieked, “Morgan, the youngest master of painting in the country. Why is he here, too?”
Painting wasn’t really her strong suit, but Lily had messed around with it a bit. Lately, she was determined to boost her reputation, so she was trying to make a name for herself in both piano and painting.
That’s why she sent Morgan some of her work, hoping to become his apprentice.
But he replied with just one brutal line: [Trash like you wants to be my apprentice? Dream on.]
And now, Morgan was actually here, lowering himself to attend a birthday party.
“I was invited to celebrate Mrs. Sarah Swanson’s birthday, and since I didn’t have any impressive gift to offer. I’ll paint something for her right here,” Morgan said, then immediately began to work on his painting.
Hazel, sitting at another table, could barely contain her excitement.
After the apprenticeship ceremony, Morgan told her to get out there and experience life, and after that, all he wanted was for her to keep painting.
He never commented on whether her art was good or bad. He just let her paint whatever she felt like, no matter what it was,
