After Joshua kept pestering her, Nina finally went to the law firm with him. By the time she got back to the Swanson residence, it was already dark outside.
Joanna had just finalized her divorce papers with Theodore.
As soon as Nina walked in, she heard Vivian saying, “Joanna, now that you’re divorced, isn’t it time you stopped living here?”
Joanna’s face shifted, and just as she was about to speak, Sarah cut in, “What, you want to throw my daughter out?”
Vivian smiled. “Sarah, I wouldn’t dare. But people should know when it’s time to move on, right? We all have our own families and kids. Joanna’s been living here for years and hasn’t chipped in a single cent.
“I kept quiet before because I felt bad for her and her daughter, but now she’s divorced and got her settlement, it’s only right she moves out.”
Vivian glanced at Sarah. “Otherwise, people will start talking. What does it look like, a grown woman still living at home?”
Before Sarah could say anything, Vivian continued, “You dote on your daughter, but shouldn’t you care about your sons too?
“You control all the money, and each month you only give us a little. We’re the ones footing the bills and still have to take care of your daughter. It’s a lot for us to handle.”
“If you don’t want Joanna to move out, then let her stay with her bothers. Give us a break, will you?” Vivian sneered. “I remember how quick you were to throw Lily out. So why is it different when it’s your own daughter?”
“You!” Sarah was so furious she could barely speak.
Before Sarah could get a word in, Linda jumped in, “I’m not letting her stay at my place. We’re already cramped as it is. Everyone has their own room, and the kids have a dance studio and a study.
“If she comes over, that’s two more rooms I’d have to clear out? No way, I’m not making my kids suffer for this.”
Judy chimed in, “Same here. My mom’s been in bad health these past few years, and she just told me she and my sister are coming to stay with me for a while.”
“You…” Sarah clutched her chest, so angry she couldn’t get a word out.
Joanna rushed to steady Sarah. “Mom, please don’t get upset. I’ll move out, really. I’ve got money now, and if I budget, it’ll be more than enough for the rest of my life.”
Before, with no money of her own, she had no option but to live at the Swanson residence.
But now that she’d gotten her divorce settlement, she didn’t have to stay here anymore. Even though it pained

her to leave Sarah, if she kept living here, her sisters-in-law would just keep making things difficult for Sarah.
She and Hazel wouldn’t have many expenses. As long as they were smart with the 6 million dollars, it’d easily cover their needs for years to come.
“You’re not leaving!” Sarah roared. “This is my house, and I decide who gets to stay. If anyone doesn’t like it, they can pack up and get out!”
“Mom, can you be reasonable for once?” Vivian frowned. “Go ask around. When have you ever seen a married woman still living at her parents’ place? We have our own lives too, you know.”
Vivian shot a look at Waverly. “Besides, Waverly told me yesterday she’s planning to move back in for a while. If Joanna doesn’t move out, where’s Waverly supposed to sleep?”
Waverly had been crashing in Lily’s music room for the past couple of days.
Waverly was already annoyed.
Sarah turned sharply to Waverly. “You want to move back in? You’re doing just fine at your in-laws’ place, so why do you want to come home now?”
“Mom, I missed you,” Waverly said with a smile. “It’s been years since I came home, and I just want to spend some time with you. Besides, Joanna’s been living here for years. Shouldn’t I get a turn too?”
Sarah’s eyes narrowed as she stared at Waverly. “What are you really up to?”
She didn’t believe for a second that Waverly was just here to see her.
“I told you already, Mom. I came back just to see you. Why don’t you trust me?” Waverly glanced at Joanna. “We’re both your daughters, so why is it fine for Joanna to stay here but not me?
