If she wasn’t being forced to wait before dealing with Matthew, she wouldn’t be wasting her time. She’d have just handled him herself by now.
Then she wouldn’t have to keep stressing about Sarah’s safety every single day.
When Nina arrived at the airport, she saw a young man in his early twenties, dressed casually, waiting for her.
As soon as he spotted Nina from afar, he jogged over. “Ms. Swanson, hi! I’m Philip Shannon, Dr. Berger’s student. He asked me to fill you in on Mr. Carroll’s condition on the way.”
As he spoke, Philip snuck a careful glance at Nina.
He was stunned by her beauty.
She looked even prettier than in the photos.
Nina nodded. “Appreciate it.”
With that, the two walked into the airport and got on the plane.
Once they were settled in, Philip started explaining, “Mr. Loren Carroll’s situation is really tricky. Years ago, he got hit with a left ventricular aneurysm and a blood clot stuck to the heart wall.
“He needed surgery to clear out the clot and fix the wall, but if that thing broke loose, it could cause a stroke. The whole operation is super risky. No doctor dared to risk it.
“After a bunch of top specialists from all the big hospitals got together, they decided to play it safe. The Carroll family’s loaded, so paying for all those pricey meds wasn’t a problem.
“With the doctors working around the clock, Loren managed to hang in there for a few years. But this year, things started going downhill fast. He was supposed to have six months left, but something must’ve set him off, and he suddenly got way worse.
“Then, after more tests, they found out he’s got a hemangioma too. So now he’s dealing with two major conditions at once, and they’d have to do two surgeries at the same time, which is insanely tough.
“His body’s already pushed way past its limit, and the doctors in Roveilia say he’s got maybe a week left, tops.”
After Philip finished laying out Loren’s condition, he just sat there quietly, waiting for Nina’s reaction.
But Nina didn’t say a word for ages. She just kept silent. Philip was sweating bullets, totally on edge.
Philip remembered what his teacher had said. Nina was the Miracle Doctor everyone in the medical world was always talking about.
The Miracle Doctor was a total big shot in the field, with skills that blew everyone’s mind.
But word was, she wasn’t exactly known for being easygoing. Rumor had it her temper could be pretty fierce.

He never got what people meant by her bad temper, but now he did.
It was no joke.

Nina kept a stone-cold face the whole time, and the aura she gave off was so strong it was honestly scary.
If the only reason he was here wasn’t to fill Nina in on Loren’s condition, he wouldn’t have said a word to her.
After a few seconds of silence, Nina asked, “Do you have the scans?”
Philip thought she was just ignoring him and was still a little spaced out. So when Nina suddenly spoke, he was so startled he almost missed it. “Uh, yeah. I’ve got them.”
Philip hurriedly passed the scans to Nina.
Paul had these sent over the moment he heard Nina was heading to Roveilia, so she could check them out during the flight.
Nina looked them over in silence, not saying a word.
After she was done, she simply shut her eyes.
Philip was confused.
He had no idea why she said nothing.
He felt pretty awkward.
Philip was a bundle of nerves the whole flight, until the plane finally landed in Roveilia.
Out front, Cheney had been waiting for a while.
Cheney had visited Paul’s research institute before, so he recognized Philip right away.
When Cheney saw Philip walking out with a girl and nobody else in sight, he looked confused. “Philip, it’s just you two? Where’s the Miracle Doctor? Didn’t you say he was coming to treat my dad?”
Philip gestured to Nina. “She’s the Miracle Doctor!”
“What?” Cheney, a veteran in the business world, was so stunned he just gaped like a fool. “Wait, she’s the Miracle Doctor?”
