Chapter 180
Chapter 180
On the way to the Carroll residence, the car was eerily silent.
It was so silent, one could literally hear everyone breathing.

Philip was in the front passenger seat, too scared to even glance at the two in the back. If he could vanish into thin air, he totally would.
The tension in the car was suffocating.
Cheney kept sneaking glances at Nina, still struggling to believe that the legendary Miracle Doctor was actually just a young woman in her early twenties.
It was honestly mind-blowing.
Cheney thought, ‘What was her name again?
‘Nina Swanson?’
He remembered that she’d just introduced herself as Nina Swanson.
There was something about Nina’s vibe that struck Cheney as strangely familiar.
It was like a weird sense of déjà vu.
But for the life of him, he just couldn’t figure out who she reminded him of.
Nina could feel Cheney sneaking glances at her the whole ride. If it were anyone else, she would’ve called them out for staring, but when it came to the Carroll family, she actually let it slide for once.
The silence in the car was suffocating, so Cheney finally broke it. “Ms. Swanson, how about we grab a bite first? The hotel’s all set up. Maybe you should get some rest today?”
Nina shot him a sidelong glance, her voice calm and slow. “You’re in a good mood, huh?”
“What?” Cheney blinked, a little confused.
“From what you told me, your dad’s got, what, three days tops? And you’re still thinking about food?” Nina’s tone was light, but somehow, it made the air feel even heavier.
Cheney was left speechless.
He thought, ‘I was just trying to be considerate. She just got off the plane and probably hasn’t eaten yet. Wouldn’t it be a bit much to drag her straight to the hospital on an empty stomach?
‘How did I end up getting lectured for that?’
And then it suddenly struck him who Nina reminded him of.

Chapter 180
She was just like Loren.

The way she spoke was almost identical to Loren’s. If someone didn’t know the truth, they might actually think Nina was Loren’s long-lost granddaughter or something.
‘Wait, granddaughter?’ Cheney wondered, his thoughts spinning.
He jerked his head up and gave Nina a good once-over.
She looked nothing like Loren.
She couldn’t be Loren’s long-lost granddaughter.
But Cheney didn’t know why she talked and acted so much like Loren.
Cheney just couldn’t wrap his head around it.
“Just head straight to the hospital,” Nina said, not even bothering to look at Cheney.
Cheney saw Nina had made up her mind, so he didn’t push it. “Alright. Anything you need us to do once we get there?”
“Just make sure nobody bothers me,” Nina said, her tone flat. “I’m not here for any nonsense.”
Cheney totally got what she meant.
Nina was just way too young.
If she started treating Loren, people were bound to question her.
And where there were questions, there was trouble.
Cheney’s face darkened. “Don’t worry, Ms. Swanson. This is about my dad’s life. I won’t let anyone get in your way.”
Nina nodded. “How much longer till we get there?”
“About half an hour,” Cheney replied.
Nina pulled out her phone, made a quick call, and said, “I’ll be there in thirty minutes.”
After that, she just closed her eyes and didn’t say another word.
Half an hour later, the car pulled up at the hospital entrance.
Nina got out and saw several doctors in lab coats, each holding a medical kit, waiting by the door.
As soon as they saw Nina, they hurried over to greet her. “Doctor.”
Nina just gave a quick nod and walked right in without slowing down, asking as she went, “Have you reviewed the case?”
“Yes,” they replied in unison.
Nina turned to Cheney. “Let the hospital know we’ll operate in thirty minutes.”
Then she looked at the man standing in front. “Russell, you and your team get everything ready for the surgery.”
“Yes,” Russell Jefferson replied.
Cheney was taken aback. “Wait, we’re doing the surgery today?”
Nina frowned, her tone sharp. “What, you don’t want to go through with it?”
“No, that’s not it,” Cheney rushed to say. “I just thought maybe we should check in with the doctors who’ve been treating my dad first and see what they think?”
“No need,” Nina replied coolly. “I’ve handled surgeries like this plenty of times.”
She didn’t even ask whether Loren was able to eat.
He was completely unconscious, kept alive only by IV fluids. Eating was out of the question.
Cheney opened his mouth, about to say something else, but Nina cut him off. “Take me to his room.”
Cheney was left speechless.
‘Man, talking to Nina is seriously stressful,’ he thought.
She didn’t even give him a chance to react.
Cheney didn’t dare ask anything else. He finally understood. This Miracle Doctor was every bit as eccentric as the legends made her out to be.
