He was scared that if he said the wrong thing and somehow offended Nina, she might refuse to treat his father, and that would be the end for him.
Cheney brought Nina directly to Loren’s hospital room.
All the Carroll family members were gathered in the room.
Nina pushed the door open, didn’t even look at anyone from the Carroll family. “All of you, out.”
“Hey, you…” One of Cheney’s sisters-in-law was annoyed.
Cheney cut in, his tone sharp. “Why are you still standing there? Didn’t you hear what the Miracle Doctor said? Get out, now!”
“The Miracle Doctor?” one of the Carroll family members blurted out, totally shocked.
The whole Carroll family was left speechless.
‘Seriously? The Miracle Doctor is just a kid?’ they all thought, completely floored.
They wondered if Cheney was tricked.
But seeing how serious Cheney looked, nobody dared say a word. They all quietly left the room.
Cheney followed everyone out, then turned to his younger brother. “Get in touch with the hospital right now. Dad’s going into surgery. And show these doctors to the operating room.”
Then he warned the rest of the family, “The Miracle Doctor’s got a bit of a temper, so just stay out here and keep quiet. Don’t make any noise.”
With that, Cheney went back into the room.
Nina was the only one there.
The moment Cheney stepped in, he saw Nina taking Loren’s pulse.
Not daring to make a sound, he just stood quietly off to the side.
He stood there for half an hour.
Cheney couldn’t help but feel a bit puzzled.
‘Seriously, does it really take half an hour just to take a pulse?’ he thought.
What Cheney didn’t know was, even though Nina’s hand was resting on Loren’s wrist, she wasn’t really taking his pulse at all.
Her clear, piercing eyes never left Loren for a second.
About two weeks ago, aside from the Crimson Syndicate crew, a few folks from Roveilia also turned up at Scarlet’s little courtyard.
All of them were seriously injured.
They’d been badly wounded by the Crimson Syndicate.
Nina had dragged them back from the edge of death.

And from them, she learned something crucial.
It was Loren who had sent them to keep an eye on Scarlet’s courtyard.
Loren had gotten word that his daughter was living there.
But by the time they arrived, the place was already empty. Loren wasn’t in good health and couldn’t stay long, so he told them to keep watch over the place.
If anyone showed up, they were supposed to let Loren know right away.
That day, while they were keeping watch nearby, they suddenly heard a gunshot. Next thing they knew, a bunch of guys with guns showed up, took out a few people, and ended up grabbing a bunch of girls.
They were just regular bodyguards, and all they had for protection were a couple of daggers. There was no way they’d rush out, so they figured they’d wait for those guys to leave before calling the cops.
But just when they thought it was safe and were about to make the call, those guys popped back out of nowhere and started firing at them.
Nina happened to arrive just in time.
But she was tied up saving Ryan, so she quickly ordered her crew to get those guys out of there.
It took her a few days to pull them back from the brink.
Nina couldn’t help but stare at Loren for a while. The last time she’d seen him, there was this weird sense of familiarity she just couldn’t shake.
Scarlet hadn’t even crossed her mind back then.
But now, taking a closer look, she realized Loren and Scarlet were actually surprisingly similar.
She remembered Scarlet once saying she’d been left by the river as a newborn, nearly drowned, but was rescued by the man who would become her adoptive father.
The man who raised Scarlet was really good to her, but he died when she was just thirteen.
After that, Scarlet wandered the streets on her own, and eventually wound up working at a nightclub.
Scarlet always brushed over that part like it was nothing, but she never said a word about what went down in those missing
years.
But Scarlet had always believed her birth parents had abandoned her.
“Ms. Swanson, the OR’s ready,” Cheney said, seeing Nina still lost in thought. “Do we go ahead with the surgery now?”
Nina snapped back to reality, got up, and gave Loren a quick look. “Let’s move him to the OR.”
