Chapter 180 I Won’t Mind

Chapter 180 I Won’t Mind

You hardly ever talk to me about this. I know it’s something that still hurts you,Milford said.

It was Milford who said this.

Stella forced a smile, but it faded before it could fully form. Back then, I told myself that if anyone ever gave me the same warmth my parents did, I’d treat them well without a second thought.

I haven’t met anyone like that, but I know your adoptive mom’s actually been pretty good to you. You don’t have to let my feelings affect what you do.

As she spoke, Stella softly rubbed Milford’s fingers.

She added, We’re our own people, with our own families. Maybe they’re genuinely good to you, but when it comes to me as their daughterinlaw, that’s a whole different story

Stella gave a wry, selfmocking smile at that.

But that doesn’t change anything between us. You do what you think is right for her. I won’t have a problem with it,she said.

Milford was really touched by Stella’s words.

Emotion flickered across his handsome features.

He turned his hand over and held Stella’s tight, pulling it to his chest, right over his heart.

Meeting you is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Some people just don’t know how lucky they are, but I won’t make that mistake. From now on, let me handle everything,” he said.

Stella gave him a playful smile. “Don’t forget what you promised today.

Their relationship was basically official at this point.

Back when they were at the sanatorium, Stella had already called Milford her husband.

But lately, with work and everything else going on, even though Stella knew how she felt, things between her and Milford just seemed a little awkward.

That old sweet, romantic spark was missing. Now it was just the two of them busy with their own stuff.

Today, though, because of all the Woodard family drama, they finally got to sit down together and enjoy a rare bit of tenderness.

Stella sat with Milford on the couch for a long time, listening as he said softly, I was thinking of giving her one of my properties to live inbut maybe I should just buy her a new place instead.

Just be careful with Bradly and the others. I don’t want them getting any freebies,Stella said.

Milford and Bradly were basically at each other’s throats now. There was no reason for Milford to keep being nice to his brother.

Milford replied, I know. I’ve got this under control, so don’t worry.

The next day, Milford contacted Nadine directly.

When Nadine learned her eldest son was getting her a new place, she was shocked. I always put your brother first and ignored you, and yet you’re still so kind to me

You don’t have to say that. You raised me, after all,Milford replied.

Milford stayed calm about it.

Nadine sighed and reached out, wanting to hold her son’s hand and talk to him for a moment.

But as soon as she reached out, Milford stepped back a little.

Somehow, they had grown so distant from each other.

Nadine paused, her sigh heavy with regren the one who falled you…”

You really don’t have to say that. I’m not truly your own son, but you’ve done more than enough for me,” Milford said.

He let the matter drop and didn’t say anything else.

Once the new house was ready and Nadine moved in, she asked, You’re giving me such a nice place. Aren’t you worried I’ll just sell it and use the money to support

She swallowed the words she was about to say as she couldn’t bring herself to say it in front of Milford.

Milford shook his head. If you really plan to do that, someone would tell me. But that would burn the last bridge between us.

When it came to Milford and Stella, Nadine knew she couldn’t interfere.

She realized that the only tie left between her and Milford was the debt of having raised him.

Just then, Stella came over.

She hadn’t seen Nadine in ages, but she walked up to Milford and greeted Nadine with a casual hi,like it was no big deal.

Stella’s expression was calm. She didn’t seem to hold any grudges, but she wasn’t exactly respectful either.

Nadine was a little surprised to see Stella there.

She glanced at Stella, then at Milford, and seemed to get the picture. She sighed. Kids grow up, and I can’t keep any of you in line anymore.

Fine, just don’t give me anything else to worry about.

When Bradly showed up asking her to sell the house, Nadine wasn’t too keen on the idea at first.

That place had been their family home for so many years, and now she was supposed to let it go just to save Bradly’s company. Nadine couldn’t help but feel like she was betraying her husband.

But with her precious son coming to her, actually admitting he was strapped for cash

Even the money Nadine had stashed away wasn’t nearly enough to fill that massive gap.

Just to keep them from coveting what little she had left, Nadine felt she had no choice but to give in.

Meanwhile, in the hallway, Shanna and Bradly hurried toward the house.

If I’d known, I would’ve just told you to ask your brother for money. His business is booming. He must have a ton of cash stashed away,” Shanna said.

Shanna had been quietly checking things out these past few days. Milford hadn’t been affected at all. His company was still going strong, and he had a whole portfolio of properties.

Just one of those properties could solve Bradly’s company’s cash crunch in a heartbeat. But since Milford was only adopted into the Woodard family, Shanna knew better than to mention it to Bradly.

With Bradly’s pride, he’d be crushed if he found out.

Thinking about it, Shanna couldn’t hide her excitement. See? I knew getting your mom to sell the house was the right call. Now that she’s out there renting, Milford just couldn’t bear to see her like that

He actually paid for a brand new place for her himself. Wasn’t this the perfect opportunity for her and Bradly to move in together?

Bradly actually felt pretty uncomfortable about getting all these freebies.

It was Milford paying for all this.

Seeing Milford with Stella now, and realizing he’d surpassed him in everything, Bradly couldn’t help but feel a stab of jealousy.

But then again, his company’s cash problems were sorted, and he’d landed a new house. He was basically scoring big without lifting a finger.

Honestly, I didn’t expect him to still care at this pointBradly muttered.

They were talking a mile a minute as they reached the door, which was half open, only to catch sight of two familiar faces inside.

Milford and Stella were standing shoulder to shoulder, chatting with Nadine.

Bradly had been ready to ask about the house, but with Milford right there, his ego wouldn’t let him say a word.

But Shanna, not missing a beat, hurried over. NadineThis new place is really nice!

Everyone knew Milford was the one who paid for it, but Shanna still asked, Is the house under your name? Maybe you should put Bradly’s name on the deed too?

Milford just scoffed, not bothering to say a word.

Nadine, not missing a beat, quickly clarified, What are you even talking about? I don’t have the cash to buy a house. This place is under Milford’s name. It’s got nothing to do with me.”

I’m just crashing here for now,she added.

As she spoke, Nadine hurried to pour them some tea.

After a few hospital stays, Nadine seemed much more at peace now, without the hostility she used to have.

Stella stole a quick look at her, quietly observing for a moment.
