But as far as he could remember, his father didn’t know any of these people.
William paused for a moment before saying, “Sorry, my father can’t see visitors right now.”
“Just tell him I’m Nina Swanson. He’ll see me,” Nina said, her tone calm but with an air of certainty that left no room for argument.
“Nina Swanson?” William repeated the name under his breath.
‘Why does that name sound so familiar? Where have I heard it before?’ he wondered, racking his brain but coming up blank.
“What, am I not qualified?” Nina said casually, her eyes half-lidded with a lazy, almost dismissive air.
James looked up, and for some reason, he couldn’t help but feel this girl radiated an aura of authority.
Just talking to her made him feel like he was automatically beneath her.
But she was barely in her twenties. William wondered, ‘How could someone so young have such an overwhelming vibe?’
“Sorry, you must be mistaken. My father’s really sick. He’s unconscious right now and can’t see anyone,” James
said.
Without thinking, William took a couple steps back, putting some space between himself and Nina.
Only then did he feel like he could finally catch his breath.
“Really sick?” Nina frowned. “What happened?”
“My father suddenly collapsed and hasn’t woken up since. The doctors say there’s nothing they can do, so we brought him home. Now all we can do is try our best and hope for a miracle,” William sighed.
He really didn’t want to just stand here and watch his dad slip away right in front of him.
But no one knew when they’d ever track down Miracle Doctor.
And honestly, no one could say how much longer Edward could hold on.
All William could do now was pray his dad would make it through one more day,
“Take me to see him,” Nina said.
Nina didn’t even wait for James’s answer. She just walked right in.
William was stunned by the way Nina just walked right in.
He’d never met anyone with that kind of presence. No one had ever bossed him around like that before.

By the time he came back to his senses, Nina was already inside.
William hurried after her. “Ms. Swanson, wait a second…”

Before he could finish, Nina stopped in her tracks, her face clouded over as she stared toward the doghouse.
William rubbed his temples, thinking, ‘If people find out that one of our own daughters is eating by the doghouse, the Hawthorne family will be the laughingstock of Betrico.
“Ms. Swanson, my dad really can’t see anyone right now. How about you come back another time?” William paused, and then said, “Or is there something you need from him? Maybe I can help you out?”
Nina turned her icy gaze on William. “I want the Hawthorne family gone. Think you can help with that?”
William’s face drained of color. “What the hell is that supposed to mean? When did we ever cross you?”
Nina gave him a look that seemed to see right through him, then strode right up to Miranda and stopped in front of her.
Miranda was eating with her head down when she suddenly felt a shadow looming overhead. She looked up, her eyes going wide. “Aunt Nina?”
Miranda wondered, ‘Is this a dream?
‘Already? Aunt Nina’s here?’
She’d figured it would be days before Nina actually showed up.
Nina towered over her, her face blank and cold. “Before you came here, what did I tell you?”
Miranda kept her head down, staying silent.
Nina had warned her not to stir up trouble, but if anyone messed with her, she was supposed to make them
pay, no mercy.
But she just couldn’t pull it off.
She was no match for Emily. Her mind just couldn’t keep up,
“Get up. I’m about to teach you your first real lesson in life,” Nina said, her voice icy enough to freeze the air.
